I would like to see environment-friendly hosting options. Carbon-neutrality would be nice, but the use of solar, wind, or related power sources would be great.

You would need to ask The Planet to implement your ideas. HostGator does not own the data center.

Purchasing carbon offsets would be an option. Visit carbonfund dot org.
I do this for my office. Makes me feel better. Getting The Planet to change would be difficult. |

Time to institute Free DC Energy!!
Hey Brent, or any gator that can point this out to him, i hold the secret to harnessing the planets natural electromagnetic forces to create Free DC Energy, the worlds biggest kept secret and what all this war, oil, religion is all about.....keeping it a secret. But i no longer agree with the powers that be and i STILL want to tell the whole world how to do it. Anyone interested in being among the first humans in history to really make a difference? t's all about filing down raw magnitite into simple goemetric shapes and putting them together in just the right confugureation to create a self-sustaining, never ending energy sourse known as Free DC Energy. 1,000,000 times stronger than solar energy. How does it work? Look at the world around you and how things in nature work with the planet and then start thinking "outside the box" and it'll come to you.

There is no obligation on energy suppliers to use the cash from RECs to fund new, additional renewable energy capacity. Indeed it could just be used boost company profits. I'd be very interested to know the policy of this particular supplier; I note that 3Degrees mention this 'additionality' in connection with their 3 overseas case studies, but not in relation to the 4 in the US... Despite my reservations on RECs, it's still very good to see that you are working to make a difference in this important area!

Are there any plans to include dedicated servers in the green hosting as well? If not can you at least provide a metric explaining how much energy my server consumes per year so I can buy offsets elsewhere (or perhaps let me pay this to hostgator and thus become a 'green dedicated server' client?
