Default email spam / virus scanning?

I'm considering Host Gator but need more info on the email system.

I see that you use SpamAssassin... I've heard of it, but I would like to know how well it works. How much spam gets thru the filter? Does it delete the messages?

What about email virus filtering? We've offered this to our customers for years and can't take a step backward.

Thanks,
-Joe

Default Re: email spam / virus scanning?

Hello csgo,
SpamAssassin has worked well for me in the past. I believe you can set it up to move spam to the spam inbox or to have it flagged as spam and delivered to your inbox. I currently have email verification set up which works very well for me. After someone sends me an email, they receive an email back asking them to reply to it. This helps make sure a legitimate person is the one contacting me. The email remains out of my inbox if the verification email is not replied too.

As for viruses, I do not believe HostGator provides virus scanning. As far as I am concerned, if you prevent spam, you probably prevent viruses.
