I have a couple of Domain names that I feel are "Hot".. Is there a way to run a program to sell the email address at that domain.. Sorta of like what Hsphere does with automated, online , instant activating accounts..
I.e. My site (example) xyz.com.. John, a user wants an email address at that site, Can he sign up for, pay and establish this John@xyz.com with it being hands off for me? If this is possible, which program are there? where can I find them? how much do they cost, if anything?. Thanks for any help. Also is there anyway to get the unlimited Pop3 emails on smaller accounts than the Big Reseller that you are currently using.. King I Think is the name.. I dont need THAT much space online that I am expecting and can upgrade when needed, and the bandwith with basicly an email system should be less than alot of graphics filled websites. One last question... If someone DOES use an email account I have/sold, or a websites email accounts to start sending spam, how whould I know about it? Any information on these would be appreciated.. Thank you.. Chromis Chromiski. |

Sorry for the triple Post.. Was going to stop at double, but I looked over your site once more before logging out for the night.. I see that the King was in the shared, not reseller, and all resellers have unlimited Emails available.
That Price is much more in line with that I was looking for. Night all, Chromis |

Well, I asked several questions several weeks ago, and still no answer... I wonder if this is the type of support I will get if I was to host here.
Pity... |

I don't know if you can charge for the mailboxes but you can get some advertising revenue by using BigMailbox.com This is a very customizable service that uses your private domain to create email accounts. I know there is at least one forum member here that uses it. You may want to check it out.
As for Justin being in Boca, I always thought he was in Atlanta. I could be wrong. - Justin |

Chromis,
HostGator doesn't offer a tool for the e-mail service you're looking for. Justin's suggestion seems a good alternative. These are Peer Support Forums, meaning the HostGator staff but also your peers can help you out with answers and suggestions, as Justin did. If you search the forums you'll see we answer most of the questions, but sometimes we hope other forum members have a valuable answer. (GatorJustin lives in Atlanta indeed. Brent and Ben are in Boca) Stef. |

Thank you for the information.. While Bigmailbox is not quite what I was looking for, it did have some good info..
I did find a program that will work inside of WHM and allow you to sell email addresses individually.. It costs (got info at work if anyone is interested and can post it in here later).. I am just worried that it will cause a greater chance of someone using an account for spamming... How does everyone deal with spammers here.. I know shut them down.. but how do you find out someone is spamming? keep abuse@suchandsuch-a-name.com for yourself so you hear about it? can track the number of messages? just the total bandwidth for the domain? Any thoughts and suggestions on these would be read with great interest. I origionally was looking at HostGator, then when I saw so many people complaining about the service and customer support, then the messages of mine not getting any answer for quite a few days.. I started looking around again... and guess what I found.. 1. Hostdime.com a great value HOWEVER all I hear about is downtime complaints. 2. HostXL.com (I think it was), great price but something did not feel right for me there on their site... NOW, back to HostGator, mediocre-good support, pretty good price, great how-to and info PLUS some of the best options around... After getting some answers and some information, I would say support is a little better than I thought and the uptime is better than most... When some money is coming in (that I am expecting Dec-Jan timeframe) I am going to go with HostGator... |

We are glad that you are considering making Host Gator your home! I think that you will be very satisfied here. As for your question about how they would handle a spamming email address, I beleive they would suspend the entire domain. Meaning that noone would have access to any emails until some type of explanation was given. They would have no way of knowing that it was not you doing the spamming. I am not certain of this information, this is just my opinion. You may want to drop an email to sales@hostator.com for an official answer.
I would definately keep both the abuse and postmaster addresses for yourself in case someone would want to report a spammer. If, for example, the spammer spoofs an Ebay email, the user may report it to ebay and/or the federal trade commission at spam@uce.gov. The email headers and ip addresses will tell which server sent the spam, so Host Gator may be notified directly in that manner, especially if they are unkowingly hosting a spoofed site as well. Host Gator does have some safeguards in place. Pop access allows only 200 emails per hour and on some machines 30 connections per hour. Mailman mailing lists are limited to 5k in size (5000 addresses). Anything larger than that would have to be approved by them. So if someone does decide to spam it probably won't be as widespread as it could be. - Justin Last edited by Justin; 11-20-2004 at 12:25 AM. |

Yup, you'll like it here. An email to support is the quickest route to an answer. Don't depend on the forums, because first of all, the staff would have to have time to read them in the 1st place. HostGator, it seems, is pretty busy.

If you just wanted to offer pop and smtp mail, you copuld write a php script to log into cPanel and create the account...
However, this wouldnt be secure, and i dont know if host gator would allow it.. Theres also scripts like hivemail.com that would give you the webmail option, again i dont know if hostgator allow it. --MATT |

Ok, here is something I found after lots of searching......
http://www.lucidstorm.com/ They have 1. A gallery program for pictures and such, free They have 2. A basic Email resale program and such, Free They have 3. A Advanced Email sale system with Paypal support, $45.00 It works so they say with multiple domains. However, I see people pay and are asking when they get the software.. most of them seem to have to wait several days to get it.. so be ready to charge-back if necessary.. A good point is that the owner says he will buy back the program if he can't get it working on your system (he supports you with installation) and for a while you get free upgrades (no clue on how long).. I do not own the site, I am not affiliated with the site, but I noticed very few products out there that allow you to sell email addresses so I thought I would let y'all know about it.. Chromis. |

Thank you for the update. It is always good to see when people post the answers to their own questions for the benefit of the community.
