Default Email Issues

Ok, so I have been having email issues since gator379 was having "network issues" on the 4th. We are a business with about 16 email address active. We all use Outlook with POP3. We are able to receive small emails with no attachments and send any email, attachments or not. Our problem is when trying to receive any email over a certian size with attachments it will time out or download very very slow. I have not been able to determine what the size is yet but it seems to be anything more than 1 mb. I can view everything from webmail so I dont know exactly what the problem may be.

If you try using the hostgator webmail, does it time out also?

Then there must be something that is stopping the downloads in Outlook. I just got Outlook 2007 installed yesterday for the 1st time so Im not really familiar with it. Can anyone else help him?

Why do you think it would be Outlook if it was a network wide problem? This problem applies not only to Outlook 2007 but previous versions as well. I have checked my firewall and can't see anything that would be causing slow throughput. I have restarted the server and various client computers but no help.

XeonBAMF,

It's not unusual for mail hosts to place size limits on email attachments, but the limit is rarely less than 5M (with 10-20M being more common).

Maybe the total volume of mail you are trying to download to the POP3 client in one session exceeds some threshold.

Webmail works differently, since nothing is downloaded until you ask for it -- and even then it's handled by a different app on the server.

You might want to check with HG tech support to find out if you are exceeding limits put in place to regulate the use of shared server resources.

What has happened with Horde Email? When I login to get my mail all I get is...

"Horde has been disabled due to a security vulnerability."

I have my personal website hosted with another company. It works fine for receiving large files over pop3.

EDIT- Just for fun I decided to set up the same account for IMAP instead of POP and it seems to work for some reason. Wtf is wrong with my pop? :'(
