Default Email intermittent issues - Spam Assasin issue?

We have been having issues where some emails just never show up. My wife will send me an email to one of my addresses - the one that gets the most spam, and it never shows, but does from other addresses.

I just turned off spam assassin in case that was the cause - although I get 80+ spam messages anyway even with it enabled. Ironic.

Now I find out that Hostgator was sending me a payment notice that never got through. The final notice shows up when I turn off Spam Assassin, so it looks like that may have been blocking the email. Good for me that I caught it since I was able to resolve the issue quickly.

Another concern is that the credit card on file was not expired, but even though all previous payments were made on this account, now you are not able to accept payments with this card. Something to do with Hostgator having issues with some online bank credit cards (mine is one). So my account gets suspended because you can not accept the card any longer and email does not get through letting me know that there is a problem.

Thankfully this is all resolved quickly and easily, but perhaps some better communication should be setup. If a payment email notice goes out and is not acted upon, perhaps before the suspension, a phone call could be made to make sure that the user understands that there is an outstanding payment due? Or a message posted on the reseller's WHM panel. As a reseller, it is important that I know of these things so my clients are not effected.

So far you guys have been great though in helping resolve the issues.

Michael

A phone call wouldn't be cost effective for them, am sure a lot of overseas people (like me) that use their services.
The message posted on WHM panel could be easily missed, the person would have to be checking everyday for it, but am sure most people only go into WHM when needed.
Email to outside address would be the only way, but even then if that address has spam filters it could be missed as well.

I agree some kind of notifaction is needed but nothing seems to be foolproof
