Default Email Account

I currently with a host in the UK from which I'm having really poor service. I'm about to change to hostgator but for the moment need to the domain names with the current company as I've just paid for them. If I get them to point the domain names to the new name servers will the email account on hostgator work. ie if the account was redfrontdoor.co.uk and the domain name was at another company would I be able to have a redfrontdoor.co.uk mail account with host gator?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as time is running out.

Regards
Stu

Do you mean, will the email accounts AND the hosting account work, or do you want ONLY the email accounts?

Either way, the answer is yes, but if you want just the email accounts, the process is slightly different.

I need the domain name to stay with the company its with at the moment but will change the dns pointers. The hosting and email will be with host gator. So for example redfrontdoor.co.uk domain name is with a uk company and points to my site which will be on the hostgator server. I want to use the hostgator email account so will I be able to use 'me @ redfrontdoor.co.uk' on the hostgator account and also webmail on the hostgator account.

Hope this makes sense

Stu

It sounds like what you want is the normal way people use HG when they've got domains registered somewhere else, i.e.,
  • Set nameservers at domain's registrar to the two provided in the HG welcome email.
  • Set up email accounts in cPanel of your HG account.
  • Access those email addresses either through client app such as Thunderbird or Outlook, or via webmail.
  • Put content on HG server through cPanel File Manager or FTP.
Domain registration stays at domain registrar; with nameservers set to HG's, all traffic, etc., is now connected to your HG account.

If that's what you mean, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the quick answer. That'll do nicely. I'm off to buy a package.

More accurate to call it image spamming...a variant that uses what appears to be a normal forum smiley but it has an off-site location for reasons that are not likely to be good.

webmin, your image spam has been reported.
