Default email account backup

I have an HG dedicated server account with primary domain of primary.com

I have an add-on domain with domain addon.com

I now want to make addon.com a separate domain with its own cpanel. Moving the files is straightforward. The part I am not sure about is how to move the emails. I realize I cannot do an account backup since that will back all the accounts (primary.com and addon.com) but is it possible to backup individual addon.com email accounts (at least the content in them) so that even if I have to recreate the addon.com account to make it a sepearate account I can save the emails in each account and restore them for the folks who use the @addon.com emails so they wont lose all their emails in the move. My main goal is to save the emails in their account so if there are some manual steps, that is fine.
Thanks in advance.

If you don't have mailman on your server it is pretty easy, copy the mail directory (Anyway as backup) reset hem in the new account and then open the exact same mails with the same pwd's.
For me was workin moving about 20 accounts even extracted from partial backups.
With mailman, I read somewhere in this forum that you have to correct/adjust some filenames if you use the manual move.

Make a backup of the account first, but I think if you take the account, remove the addon domain and then rename it to the name of the addon domain and then restore the main domain back from the backup, you will end up with the original account and the addon account that is an exact copy of the main account, but with the new name.

You can test this with a test account, of course.
