Any known issues today with e-mail delays......had some complaints and then I personally just received one that was sent to me almost 11 hours ago.
I tested another of my reseller accounts and test 3 e-mails (sending and receiving) all 3 sent but only received 2 replies back. |

Definitely delays happening earlier. Looks like e-mails were in queue.

PM me the E-Mail headers on the e-mails you received that were delayed. I'll take a look.

Ah, I think I see an issue. Gateway05 had a bunch of e-mails in the preprocessed queue. I'll see what I can do about making sure this doesn't happen again... The best solution would probably be to throw a couple more mail servers in the cluster. I can probably get a couple of mail gateways provisioned by the weekend.
There is a lot of work to be done this week, but I'll continue to monitor the queues for any other issues. |

I have pretty much finished provisioning two new gateway servers. I'm to tired to make them live at the moment. Once I get some rest I'll finish getting the servers setup.

I did receive a response to this stating that there was high server load which caused the delayed e-mail. They also stated this would be monitored for high server loads, etc..
I have noticed the amount of websites hosted on this server since I signed up as a reseller has more than doubled. I am still experiencing issues....some rather embarrassing as I am responding to customers 2nd or 3rd e-mails and then receiving their 1st or 2nd e-mails hours later. |

I saw email receive delays of approximately 8 hours yesterday and more today (unclear when or if they are coming in). They seem to be intermittent per account and time.
I chatted online with HG support and they said the relevant server was not currently overloaded. There should be a metric available in the cpanel to identify when emails are not being placed in the inboxes of the recipient so we can arrive at a plan of action based on quantized usage on that server. We're talking a shared server so I don't know if that kind of data could be made available to a particular domain cpanel. Does HG permit you to outsource email, i.e, to enter off network mx records for the domain? Please note that the relevant server is not the one applicable to the domain or account listed. |

Yes, you can change the MX record in your cPanel.

Thanks. I had noticed the cpanel mx record modificatin area, but I wasn't sure whether that meant you could point to an off network mail server.
Now I need to locate one, because these 8 hour delays intermittent are unacceptable. |

They said it was solved....but well after that time I am still receiving e-mails with a 8-10 hour delay.

Fusemail looks like an interesting email hosting solution for those who aren't running their own Exchange server. I do operate an Exchange server for the relevant client and we want to keep that functionality (which is closely integrated with remote work capability and all of the Office 2003 applications, i.e., Outlook) intact. Why don't I just let our Exchange/SBS 2003 server handle the email directly via SMTP? Because, ironically, I wanted to assure no lost or delayed email due to problems involving the local office server, so I liked the idea of keeping the company original web host email and just letting Exchange download that email via the Microsoft POP connector. Exchange makes the email from POP accounts available in the Exchange account mailboxes. Exchange sends directly with its own SMTP connector.
So, what I really need is for the HG server to properly handle what is not an excessive business load, or use another web host simply to assure the email is not delayed or lost (which is increasingly the problem here at HG, and I am not sure whether that is due to overutilization by our middle man who resells the shared HG server to us or some gateway processing mentioned by the HG engineering folks earlier). We want to keep the external website at HG because everyone is happy with the functionality of that. HostGator--can you give us quantitative data on what is causing the problems I and others here are noting? That might be used to permit your staff to fix the problem (in say a gateway server as mentioned earlier) or let me convince our reseller and our mutual client that we need perhaps a more dedicated account, i.e., perhaps a dedicated server. |

Myself and my clients have experienced these 8-16 hour delays over the last 2 months. Everytime I submit a ticket, they claim excessive load and they are working on it....It is starting again today. My incoming emails are queued somewhere within hostgator and then 6-8 hours later I receive them. How do I keep telling my customers its only a temp problem when it keeps happening?

I just set up an account in my domain for the first time and have been testing it over the last 24 hours. Some mails that I send are received immediately but it seems that approx. 2 out of 5 are delayed for a few hours. Looking back on this thread it seems like an ongoing issue. Why can't HostGator solve this problem? I hate the idea that I'm probably going to have to subscribe to another email solution when the one I'm paying for should be sufficient. I don't have a particularly heavy load to deal with but the emails I do send need to be received immediately and in the right order.

What am I talking about? I have set up a webmail account in my HostGator domain. me@mydomain.com. The mails I send using it sometimes take 3 or 4 hours to be received. I am not an expert on email. How do I "send via my ISP"?
