Not sure whether anyone else has had this problem, or is it a result of the recent server outage (or was that just a reseller based server?)- but have been notified by a friend who uses webmail to view messages for an email address set up on my domain, that the messages that had been there before have now gone without warning
any ideas? cheers Toby |

Check settings for autoarchive/delete.

thanks for the reply
i have checked to see if there are any settings like this if it is 'Aging' which you can enable after you login to webmail, this isn't checked. My friend uses Horde but I haven't found anything within here which I could disable There's an option called 'Perform maintenance operations on login?'- could this be the reason why the messages aren't there? Cheers |

Maybe his pop3 mail client is deleting the mail after he's accessing it?

"Aging" IS what I was referring to. Next, I'd follow Slapshotw's advice and check the settings of any email clients that access that email account. One more thing - that outage you mention. Was that a mail server outage? |

im pretty sure that he's not using a pop3 mail client to view his messages- i think he was just viewing them online with webmail

aging seems to only work with pop3 sessions, so again, this shouldn't affect what my friend is doing by accessing the mail online only the server that went down was the one in the last few threads- something along the lines of:- Skyline Major outage 4/19/07 server ip 67.19.58.194 - i think there were some mail services being run on it but looking back again unless it was on the server i was using it shouldn't have caused any problems for me thank you for you replies, much appreciated =] |

You might want to ask support about aging. Aging is flaky and at one point HG announced that it had been disabled.

found problem-after contacting HG support, looked at all settings in Mail on Mac OS X 10.4.8
found that all messages are set to be removed from the server after one week by default i had set up the email account on my computer as well and was storing the messages going through this account although i hadn't realised it as it as i thought it was something with webmail!! if you're using a Mac check that this option is disabled if you want to keep messages on the server. |

that's what I (and slapshotw) meant when I said, "check the settings of any [emaphasis added] email clients that access that email account."

This is an option with all POP3 email clients-- Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc... and is why we asked you about the pop3s before.
