Default E-Commerce

I need to host an E-Commerce site with a very simply shopping cart, only one product; a book, but it needs to be able to accept all major forms of credit card processing.

So right now I am thinking of getting a hosting plan, then its $75 for the SSL cerficate, but who should I go through for credit card processing? I looked at verisign but it appears to be a $999 a year. Does this seem normal or am I getting stuff I don't need?

Also, the free shopping cart scripts included are somewhat weak, does'nt host gator have any professional licensed carts?

Thanks!

Unless you plan on making alot more than $999 with it, theres no reason to spend that much. Take a look at our merchants page at www.hostgator.com/merchants.shtml

The problem with PayPal is users have to have an accont and login to their system, which doesnt look professional. I want users to be able to enter their credit card information directly into my shopping cart.

I would advise accepting both like we do if its possible, for the people not using paypal they can use the CC service. Those other two merchants on that page we recommend also though for Credit Card transactions. Its hard to find a good one though without having to pay a nice fee, and of course you do not want to be stuck with a low-quality credit card system.

I believe Paypal has changed their policy. Users no longer have to have an account and login with Paypal to make a payment. It does make transactions much faster though. Check out their services. You can even set it up so your customer never seems to leave your web site. Paypals fees are reasonable for low volume users.

That's correct, Paypal does not require an account for purchases. I too was skeptical about using them versus a CC processor, but when you compare the costs it makes sense. I have had no complaints and it seems that customers are much more aware and receptive to Paypal these days...

I did not even realize they changed it. (Since I have a paypal account myself.) Glad to know that, in that case paypal does seem like a very good choice.
