Default Drupal 6 w/ Dedicated Server

Several questions:

1. I am considering a HostGator dedicated server, and would like to hear the experience of others who have hosted Drupal 6 sites with HostGator using either a dedicated or VPS.

2. Also, if I pursue a dedicated package, I will need to run PHP 5.2 as opposed to 5.3, since certain Drupal 6 modules could malfunction outside of the 5.2 PHP branch, so would I simply request 5.2 be installed instead of 5.3 when signing up for the server?

3. If I encounter any issues with Drupal, is technical support able to assist if I subscribe to a dedicated server? I already have my Drupal sites designed and functioning on my local host, so I am not a novice, but just in case I encounter any snags with transitioning from my local host to the dedicated server, I would want to know that technical support would be able to help.

Thanks!

1. Hostgator server is a standard set up with cPanel(may be without cPanel as well) and there is nothing that should really worry about. I maintain a Drupal site and I own hostgator account, but both are different However, I do not see any reason why anyone should have an issue with Drupal on Hostgator, especially with a dedi/VPS.

2. I am not sure about that. You may ask customer support directly.

3. Drupal is an open source CMS script and Hostgator is a host. Normally these are two different areas and hosts do not provide programming help. You really need to hire a freelance programmer in case you have any issues. Try Elance, Guru.com, Rentacoder etc.

Again, I have no idea if Hostgator would go to the extend of fixing the scripts, but this is not a standard practice. I know some of the hosts who do that, charge something like $50 - $75 per hour. You should be a able to get a freelancer do the same for $10/hr. Drupal is a complex script and you might need an expert / be an expert if something goes wrong.

I have been thinking of using Drupal with HostGator. Thank you for sharing this information. This really mean a lot. I will also ask the support team for other stuff not mentioned.
