Default Downtime reason?

Attachment 33
This appeared on my siteuptime.com statistics. Happened 26/12/05. Granted it's only been running about a week and a half so the 1%(ish) doesn't reflect this months outage, but I wondered if there was a reason?
The server is Tahoe.

For your refrence, I have had siteuptime running to monitor my server for a few months now.

That will just give you an idea of the uptime they typically have. It is not the 99.9% that most hosts boast (this figure is usually inflated anyhoo). But its still prety good.

Using a 10 minute monitor does not provide an accurate uptime report. If you can't afford to do 1 minute monitoring you should not even use it as the figures are not accurate, 1 minute of downtime will count as 10. I have been in the hosting business for 3 years and have tested numerous uptime companies. I am not too crazy about siteuptime to begin with as they report a lot of false reports as well. The best 2 providers I have found so far are http://www.hyperspin.com/ and http://www.alertra.com/

I have to agree with Jaydog. Uptime monitoring is a great tool, but you can't look at the uptime percentage and expect to see 99.9% uptime using 10 minute monitoring. With 10 minute monitoring, your accurace is only within about 16% of the actual uptime figures. That means that even if the uptime showed the site was up for 90% of the time, it could still actually be up 99.9% of the time.

Add to that the problem with network connectivity and the fact that servers do need to be restarted every once in a while and you'll end up with some fairly inaccurate figures.

10 minute monitoring is great to let you know the server is down, but not good enough to chart uptime.
