Angry downgrade fee...

I was quite suprised to find that HostGator charges to downgrade an account.
I don't think this is such a good idea because if someone is downgrading, there is a good chance it is because something that the hosting company did wrong. If by chance the hosting company did do something wrong, and the user wanted to downgrade rather than just kill the account, you should incourage such (by not charging a fee).

We used to do downgrades for free, but people really started abusing it. Every other day a few would upgrade then downgrade upgrade downgrade, and keep demanding refunds for unused time.

All it takes is a few abusive people to ruin things for everyone.

or 1 free downgrade period. I don't think that's unreasonable, people's needs change.

I as well do not think it it wise to charge such a fee for downgrades. It can be done in a few clicks easily. Though I think you should limit the number of downgrades (about 1 or two) and then charge for each downgrade.

Just be reasonable with the HG team, treat them with respect, be cool with them, and they will often waive fees just to keep you happy. I can totally understand why they charge the fees they do. If you ran a web hosting business, you would easily see why all those mundane things add up. But like I said, be professional with them and you will be amazed what all they will do for you.

No disrespect intended, simply making a suggestion. $10 isn't unreasonable, I still think we should get 1 free. It's too bad some try to skirt the system and be "difficult" and end up ruining things for others.

I think all Hostgator members should get one free downgrade. However, I think all other downgrades should be $10. I think that is fair.
