Hello,
I am new here, and i want to ask a question about double optin if someone can help me. I use a double optin system in my website: http://sim-max.biz Users must signup to can download free software from our company( http://sim-max.biz/signup.html ).I saw in the terms and conditions section that double optin is not allowed here.Is it possible to install the double optin software here and when is the moment to sent emails to the optin list,to sent the emails from my desktop pc and not from the hostgator's server? ( without using the smtp server of hostgator) We ever include unsubscribe function to our newsletters for who wants to unsubscribe. So i am not sure if to bring this website here still or not. B)I also want to ask if pornography( adult websites are allowed here). From the presales chat i have been told that adult websites are allowed.however i have noticed in the terms and conditions that pornography is described as "not accepted".What is the policy of hostgator on this subject? regards, george. |

As for your first question, I'll be completely honest and tell you that I have absolutely no idea what you are asking. If you would submit an email to sales@hostgator.com they will be able to respond accordingly.
As for adult content, it is permitted provided it is LEGAL adult content. |

Yes ofcourse i am talking about legal adult content.I don't have any website of this kind, but since i am going to resell hosting services i would like to know what kind of websites i can accept under my reseller account.
As for the optin maybe i did not expressed well my question in english. You see english is not my language and i do many mistakes. I was just asking if the double optin process is accepted on your servers. This is a feature i use in my company's website to create a optin email list for persons who like to receive our newsletter.Anyone who dont likes anymore can optout.I think many companies use this system,it has nothing to do with spam. I use in my website simplemail 4.9.9 software and people who optin in the mail list receives 1-2 newsletters/month.Who wants to optout can do this any moment. I have allready given you the urls to can test them. I think this is a question that even other users would like to clarify the answer. Forgive me for any grammar mistake. george. |

saturnus, do you mean as an example, that I sign up for your newsletter and decide I don't like it, I want to stop it from sending me emails, I can unsubscribe?
If thats what you mean then no it's not considered spam as they have choosen to sign up and they have a choice of stopping it. Spam is "Unsolicited "junk" e-mail sent to large numbers of people to promote products or services. Sexually explicit unsolicited e-mail is called "porn spam." Also refers to inappropriate promotional or commercial postings to discussion groups or bulletin boards." Got the definition from google.com So what your doing saturnus is not considered spam as long as they have choosen to join and are also capable of leaving. I hoped I helped i some way. Shane |

Shane, Saturnus,
Maybe I can clarify the question here. While double-opt-in email is not considered 'spam' by the bulk of the population, it is stated in Hostgators policy that it is NOT accepted. By defininitions of 'spam', Saturnus should be allowed a double opt-in list, but by HostGators stated policy it may not be allowed. HOSTGATOR: Can you please reconsider the wording of your policy? Double opt-in means that the visitor signs up on your website, receives and email and them MUST respond to the email to be added to the website mail distribution list. This is the recommended way of insuring that you are NOT labeled as a spammer. Is this merely an error in the policy? |

Who actually double opts in to spam? nobody... Most spammers claim their lists are double opt in which is usually a lie.
If your running an email list that's not random spam emails it's fine and we allow it. Although if your list is over 5k in size you must email us to get permission first. at sales@hostgator.com

So there is a limit to 5000 email addresses on any mailing list and greater than 5000 subscribers must be approved?
And officially according to the Terms of Service: "double optin" will be treated as spam. An included feature on all reseller accounts is: Mailing Lists: "Have a group of people you regularly mail? Add them to a mailing list so you can email them faster and easier." How then does the included "Mailing Lists" feature of all reseller accounts allow the signup of new subscribers? hi, can this be answered? If our list is double-optin, and its clearly not spam (newsletter content would include new features added to site), will we be allowed to send it?

Sure you wuld be allowed to send it, but the 5,000 address rule still applies. If you have > 5,000 addresses and it is for a legitimate purpose, then we will likely approve your request to send out a larger mailing.
