Default Dotnamehost what you think?

Hi I just got my site up awhile back and I am wondering what you all think of it? It is http://dotnamehost.com and I think we have great plans what do you all think? Also we don't oversell and we have our own servers thanks.

Post Re: Dotnamehost what you think?

Viewed in Firefox 1.5b2/XP:

Overall look is professional, with a nicely contrasting colour scheme, but is rather drab.

Consider a graphic logo (rather than just image-fied text) that expresses a bit more of your corporate personality. Even something a little gimmicky like ".namehost" would be more fetching than dotname.

Forgive the generalisation, but I can't stand it when people use stock photos that don't appear to do anything for their brand. I would understand the globe in the corner if you were called globalhost or worldclasshosting or something, but as it stands, it doesn't make much sense (to me). And the fingers on the keyboard... hunh? Why?

There are spacing problems beneath your nav bar. There is a white space that separates the "fingers" image, the input fields next to "sign in" dip below the bottom margin, and the username (generally one word) and password text is vertically centred, with an equal amount of white space above and below it. There is a sliver of white above the whole thing as well, all the way across beneath the nav bar.

Your prices need to be better antialiased, as they all have jaggies.

Short About? Do you have a Long About somewhere?

Your nav bar options are confusing. "Info" should say "Plans" or something. "Hosting" should say "Order" or something.

Sites, especially business sites, shouldn't have "under construction" or "coming soon" pages. It's not like you don't have any content at all, you do; just remove the "News" link until you have some news to put up.

The homepage is visually inconsistent, detracting from its professional look. You've got labels in lowercase and labels in uppercase. From a professional standpoint, I would say that the days of all lowercase being "cool" are long gone, and I'd cringe if everything were all uppercase. I would recommend normal mixed case text (not camelcase, mind you!) but that's up to you. Whatever you decide, I would suggest being consistent.

The vertical bar you've got separating the two columns beneath your pricing information is separated by some white space. It ends just below "Short About" and "Latest News," and begins again at the info paragraph on the left and the date on the right.

Your link text-decoration is inconsistent. The nav bar at the bottom of the page has some links underlined, some not.

If you click on a link and then return to the homepage, the page redraws itself, "jumping" to its intended width. It's very distracting.

I would suggest having an editor go over your verbiage. The simple correction of several grammatical errors would, I think, greatly enhance your perceived professionalism and lend the site some more credibility.

Hth, and good luck.

- Gita.

I'm guessing it doesn't actually work yet... I tried to start an order and I couldn't. (I wanted to see how the process worked)

Sorry about that yes we were working on the whole site. But now I think it is all done. Maybe a few finally touches but mostly done. I had a designer make it for us and a friend changed it over to me we also changed billing signup etc. We also added a forum and alot of things I think it looks alot better but think it maybe a bit small but on 800x600 it looks good what do you all think? You all think maybe it needs to be a bit wider?

Deer Park Alpha 2:

Overall it looks cool at first, except that the site isn't anywhere near finished really. :/ Lots of broken links and things. I agree, you should put up an "Under Construction" Page.
