Greetings
I am fairly familiar with domain arrangements in the UK but not the USA. (1and1 customer in the UK.) 1) Are there any problems with a UK resident ordering an .org domain from HG? Presumably ordering from HG would mean that they were the registrar. Any links to clear basic background info in domains and the regulatory body in the USA would also be appreciated. 2) Do HG automatically deal with renewals and payments for domains (and of course billing me/charging my credit card) hence ensuring I do not lose the domain. 3) Having lost a phpBB last year due to the (free) provider closing down with no warning I am very interested to confirm that I can easily back up a phpBB running on HG. I should add that I have only run web sites on 1and1 not a BB. I was puzzled to note that the home page referred to phpBB2 - I thought phpBB3 was out now? Please excuse my naivety with regard to BBs . Regards JohnBUK |

I'll let others answer #1 and #2, but #3 I can answer:
Yes, you can easily and quickly backup anything within your webspace. You will have FTP access to retrieve the backup files generated, if that is your preferred method, plus a few other options (which I don't personally use though others do). phpBB 2 is what is offered for install via Fantastico, an automated program installer within cPanel. You are free to install phpBB 3 yourself. Hope that helped. |

I am also in the UK and have a .org domain, although not through Host gator, it is no different to you ordering any domain really, be it through a UK provider or a USA provider. 2. Host Gator will automatically bill you for any domains or hosting you have with them and as such when you pay your invoice your domain registration and hosting will be renewed. 3. phpBB3 is now available as an automatic install via Fantastico in cPanel.

Thanks very much both of you. That was a big help.
Looks like the only problem now is to decide which package & payment method to go for ...! Regards JohnBUK |
