Default Domain transfer and TOS questions

Hello,
I didn't sign up with HG yet, but would like to sign up for a Baby Croc account.
Now I have a couple of questions. First of all, I am the client of a different hosting company, but am about to break the contract with them. I will get refunded for the remaining 6 months, however my domain will still be with them. Can I transfer it to you, and what would that cost? Or can I use it with them until it expires and then move it to you? Either way, please let me know what to ask them to do regarding the domain, since I've never done a transfer before nor know how to use it from their company with your hosting plans.

Also, I'd like to register a new domain with you as well. Is it possible to have 2 domains pointing at different folders using only one package?

Now I have a couple of questions about the TOS.

1. My website (www.runzu.com) is does not contain any explicit pornography, it is not a pornographic website, and I do not intend to turn it into one. However, a couple of the articles and reviews might have nudity in them, as well as -maybe- genitalia pictures (no explicit sex). Is that ok with you? And of course I mean adult nudity.

2. I can see you are against the distribution of copyrighted material. What is your position on abandonware (= computer software which is no longer being sold or supported by its copyright holder.)?

3. Regarding backups, your TOS state: You agree to take full responsibility for files and data transferred and to maintain all appropriate backup of files and data stored on HostGator servers.

However, I have read on the forums there is a $15 restore fee. What is that supposed to mean? Also, can you provide me with a cron job script which should back up my databases daily and email them to me?

Thank you, that would be all.

I believe domains cost $15 to create, renew and transfer.

I wouldn't count on them letting you do that.... you can ask a live sales rep.

If there is still a copyright holder, I would guess you can not distribute it without writen permission from the copyright holder.

I believe HostGator creates weekly backups however if they do not one week and you need it, that would stink for you... always keep a backup on your computer.

And about the cron script.. I do not think one is available that does this for you on shared accounts.

I hope if you decide to host your website here you will have a pleasant time as I have had!

I just want to add, as a general rule, you should keep your domain registration seperate from your host. Transfer your domain to godaddy, enom, or some other reputable registrar, and then point the DNS servers to HG.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Esl, I've tried live support, no one's there for me ever. Maybe someone sees this thread and asnwers my questions here.

Matt, thanks for the advice. I'll probably follow it.

By that do you mean it will not connect you to live support or they just never reply? You could always open a trouble ticket, http://hostgator.com/help. Just scroll to the bottom and you should have an option that says something like "Submit a Ticket".

I can't speak for #2 or #3, but it states in the Knowledgebase:

Quote:
Do you allow adult sites?
Yes, we allow adult sites. They must be legal in the United States of America.
We recommend reading our Terms of Service, which is located at: http://hostgator.com/tos.shtml
If that's the case, I see no reason they should have a problem with what you're proposing.
