Domain Purchase

Hello. I plan on purchasing a hosting package soon. However, I would like to buy my domain in case it gets bought before I am ready to purchase my hosting package. I know I can purchase a domain elsewhere and just redirect it to HG here...but I have to wait 60 days to do that. If I purchase my domain through enom, will I be able to avoid that?

It shouldn't matter when you decide to purchase your own hosting package. All you need to do is change the nameservers that your host gives you. You can do this immediately after even REGISTERING a domain. It may take up to 48 hours to propagate, nothing else.

I thought you couldn't change nameservers for the first 60 days after purchase. Perhaps I am thinking of domain transfers though.

DNS can be changed immediately, only transfers are restricted at first.

So if I buy a domain from Godaddy, I can register it with Host Gator any time after my domain purchase?

Yes, you would just change the name servers to what is provided in your welcome email from us when you sign up.

Just follow these steps:

1. Buy domain from godaddy
2. Get a hosting account with HG
3. In your welcome mail from HG, you will get info regarding name servers.
4. Login to godaddy control panel and edit your name server details.
5. Wait for couple of hrs to days, your domain will be pointing to your site.

I reported it as well, within 15 minutes of its posting. Usually HG is a little better about this.
