Default Domain Name hosting

I recently bought a hatchling plan. I have a domain name I own on another registrar. Do I have to pay the additional $15 to transfer my domain to be hosted by hostgator, or does the plan come with one free domain hosting?

(I don't want to leave my domain name on the other registrar and simply redirect it to the nameservers here)

I'm not sure what you mean by the last part. You do not have to transfer your domain to HG in order to use the domain on a hosted account here. You would, however, need to change the nameservers for the domain at the registrar to the nameservers that HG provides when your account is set up.

There is no free domain provided with the Hatchling (or any other) account. You can host one domain on the Hatchling account but you have to either register a domain name or use a domain and change the nameservers.

Hello Stephanv,

With every plan, you can transfer one domain to HostGator for free! This also adds one year onto the domain's expiration date. Simply fill out the following form: https://secure.hostgator.com/freedomaintransfer.php

When the domain comes up for renewal, please note that you will still be responsible for the domain renewal fee.

I hope this answers your question.

Yes, this is true anywhere. Though some companies do offer free domain names with hosting plans, you are still paying for the cost of the domain name through your hosting fees. As they say, "There's no such thing as a free lunch!"
