I paid annually at my last host so I didn't have to think about it too much. I went into my hostgater account when it looked like it might be time to pay and there was an outstanding charge. Does hostgater send email invoices when it's time to pay or do I need to set up some other reminder?

I dont think they do, they just automaticly bill you if you pay with a credit card. If you pay with paypal and have a subscription it will automaticly be billed and credited, if you did a one time payment you will have to log in and pay the invoice by hand.

Actually, they do send a warning letter that your account is about to be shut off. I've been told that is actually an invoice. I always thought it was a dire warning, but one of the HG people said it was an invoice.
However, it is far easier to just setup monthly billing. |

I do believe there is also a $10 late fee after your payment is 10 days late.
