I am doing an overhaul of my site and want to present a table showing the three packages and a list of features of each (nothing new there).
What do you think of these packages and the list of features that I have decided to include in the table (having taken out some from the list but not the package itself) Plan 1 £3.99/month 50 meg Bandwidth 1000 MB ftp accounts unlimited email accounts 5 email lists (what are they? ) unlimited SQL databases 3 subdomains 5 parked domains 5 Add on domains 5 Plan 2 £4.99/month 100 meg Bandwidth 2000 MB ftp accounts unlimited email accounts 10 email lists (what are they? ) unlimited SQL databases 6 subdomains 10 parked domains 10 Add on domains 10 Plan 3 £6.99/month 500 meg Bandwidth 10000 MB ftp accounts unlimited email accounts unlimited email lists (what are they? ) unlimited SQL databases unlimited subdomains unlimited parked domains unlimited Add on domains unlimited The list of feratures that I will show are (which ones to include and which to let them find out about in cpanel? cpanel Crontab Addon Cgi Scripts Interchange Shopping Cart Agora Shopping Cart PHPBB2 Chat Rooms Entropy Banner Entropy Search Java Countdown Java Clock Counter Advanced Guestbook Simple Guestbook Random Html Generator Simple Cgi Wrapper Mysql PhpMyAdmin PhpPgAdmin Email Account Manager Webmail Default Address Manager Autoresponder Manager Email Filtering Manager Forwarder Manager Mailman List Manager SpamAssassin Ftp Account Manager Backup Manager Frontpage Search Engine Submit Tool Subdomain Manager Parked Domain Manager Addon Domain Manager Webalizer Stats Bandwidth Stats Email Scripts (cgiemail, formmail) File Manager Fantastico SSL Manager SSL Host Installer Email Domain Forwarding any advice welcome. thanks |

The information in the table is good; you left out the stuff that most people don't care about. You offer a great amount of bandwidth, however the account sizes are somewhat small. It seems to me 100mb and 1000mb bandwidth would be more to scale. It is expensive for what the package offers, but most people have no idea what the normal market price is, so they will pay for anything. What is the link to your website?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I seem to remember calculating the bandwidths according to my total and dividing it up accordingly relative to the package size.
I will post the link when the site is completed, the current one has been commented on in the other part of the forum. I am making changes to take these comments into account. So drop the bandwidth eh? what about 500mb with 50 megs and 1000 with 100megs, 5000 with 500 megs? |

Well, if you calculated the bandwidth according to your account, you should keep it the way it is, or you could lower it and have extra bandwidth as an addon option.

Hi Guys, I'd be more than a bit worried giving any client of mine more than 3 mysql databases and then I'd watch them like a hawk.
Give them unlimited and some nutter will set up 20 really bad mysql databases and add some really bad PHP and then some really fun fun will start for whoever-is-in-charge-of-de-servahs. Oh yeah, I find I must be pretty careful about what I provide in cpanel, or even if I provide cpanel to some clients. Give some of my clients the ability to create email accounts and they would simply f..k it all up. I used to use rvskin to limit the features in cpanel, there is some ability in whm to limit cpanel features per package but rvskin lets you really customise each client'c cpanel experience. The email lists are email marketing management programs, be careful with who gets their grubby hands on them as well. Mind you, I run a hands-on, face-to-face-with-client hosting business so I can be choosy about what they do or do not get on a hosting deal. Whatever - good luck out there buddy. Cheers My five cents in any case. The rest of the package/s looks just fine to me. |

Thanks for that. the reason for the databases is for some of the Fantastico stuff.

Hi
Another issue about the mysql and giving clients unlimited it that there are limits from HG out there. I think that on reseller plans you can only run 25 mysql databases total anyway, so if you hand out 100 to clients you would run into a problem. Better you check that with support, not sure about limits on dedicated servers. Cheers

A couple of things According to the reseller options comparison table resellers are allowed unlimited databases. How do you get on with taking payments in baht? I am looking to start a hosting company for Nairobi but wonder about payment methods. I went to Koh Samet a number of years ago and loved it

AH.
is that the small print? So if I have 26 clients, each with phpbb installed (via Fantastico as per glossy ads), and for one reason or another they are all active at the same time, I get stuffed

It's 25 per domain.

Hi forum.
Yeah, I stand corrected. You can have unlimited mysql database but only 25 concurrent connections per mysql user. Hey, is that a problem? I think it might be a problem. I don't know how hostgator works this out because for sure, I have at least one client who has a very big mysql database running both mambo and open realty and I know for sure he often gets way over 25 users online same time. Maybe it is a flexible limit, just so if somebody really screws it up then HG have a way to get rid of them? Whatever, HG is very good with service and with support, any new users I would be happy to tell "this is a good company".

Hey monyamic:
"How do you get on with taking payments in baht? I am looking to start a hosting company for Nairobi but wonder about payment methods." I am only now setting up my online payment for global clients. But it seems that using paypal with Thai Baht is fine. I think paypal could handle Nairobi, eh? Currently we do face-to-face web services for the tourism industry on the island of Koh Samui. So my wife just goes out each month and collects payments. Simple system, sneakernet system. "I went to Koh Samet a number of years ago and loved it" Yeah, Samet is excellent. Much smaller and more personal than Samui.

This is all very interesting and is certainly clearing up some grey areas.
Re Paypal in Nairobi...I don't think PP will take payments from a cc registered in Africa.... ![]() just looked SA OK but no others :-( Last edited by monyamic; 04-22-2006 at 04:50 PM. |

OK, understand now how the allocation of mysql concurrent connections works.
So, you could in theory have dozens of users connected to the database as long as only 25 at any point in time actually click a link (ie: use database). Makes sense, eh? Shame about the "no pp in nairobi" though. I remember for a long time you could not get any payment system in Thailand either, they used to not deal with SE Asian countries but now they do.
