Default How do you charge?

Hello,

I was thinking of moving to you guys since my last host has been down for the third time in about 14 hours. I can only afford to pay monthly, not annually, do any of your shared plans charge monthly and not annually?

I cant edit my own post... Dang. Well I see I can be charged monthly. I see you have a coupon thats 20% off everything. But when I enter that for hosting, will it be 20% off for as long as Im with you or just once? Since I will be buying monthly... Also does this come with a free domain?

No free domain, the 20% discount is only applied to the first order, then if it is a month it would be only for the firat month. There is a plan that you can pay annually, then it would be applied for the first year.

Choose wisely...

Merry Christmas!

The coupon will only be for the first month. The domain is not included, you would need to register a domain separately. You can register with any registrar and just set the nameservers.

there no FREE domain on HG plans here.

The discount is applicable on your first payment and discount is not recurring.

Okay. Thanks but I dont think HG is right for me. After I have read the TOS and from what I understood, there is a lot of things I cant do which I could on my other host...

Best of luck in your search. HG's TOS is pretty standard but they do prevent some things that can cause problems in a shared environment (which is one reason the servers aren't likely to be down 3 times in a 14 hour period. )

You can have banners on your site, you can't host an ad network though.

The baby and swamp plans allow addon domains. You cannot resell services but you can host friends as long as they also abide by the TOS.

You can host them for free with addon domains or subdomains, but if you make money from it you need a reseller plan. Be aware that many restrictions, not common to other hosting companies, are effective on HostGator shared plans. This is keeping the servers more stable, but can impair some applications...

To be more precise : There is restrictions not mentioned in the TOS, like the 2000 files limit of FTP, etc...

Ask all your questions prior to signin, to avoid deceptions...

No, the limit is the number of files visible in a folder and is generally set at 2000 in the FTP config file. You can upload as many files as you want. If there are more than 2000 files in a folder then you will not be able to list them all in an FTP program.

Oh, Okay. I dont think I even have 2000 files all together let alone in a folder. Where are these other "restrictions"?

It means you can have no more than 25 connections at the same time from a mysql user.

Note: this dosn't mean that if you have a forum you can only have 25 people online. (each connection only lasts a split second.)

It looks like you are no longer Awaiting Activation in the forums so you should be able to search the forums. The post here discusses the topic and there are many more. All shared hosts are going to have similar restrictions and 25 is pretty normal. As stated in the threads on the topic this is per database username and most connections only last a fraction of a second.

Keep in mind that this forum is a peer support option. For specific questions it is best to contact the sales department through email.

If you are having problems with your current host and considering moving also keep in mind that there is a money back guarantee on the accounts here. I moved an account here over a year ago to test and have since moved to a dedicated server. The support here is not perfect but it is much better than any others I have seen for the price (and I used to work for a competitor.)
