I wish to transfer my MySQL DBs, files and four domain names to a shared package at hostgator, but am unsure of how this would come about.
1) Should I just leave the domains at my current host (they are my host and domain provider) 2) How would the MySQL DBs get transfered? 3) Would I have to download all of my current files and then re-upload to hostgator? this will be my first time transfering, not sure on how it works.. or if it'll take extra $ |

Does your old host use cPanel or another system?

You can leave the domains at 1and1 if you want-- just change the DNS settings. If you transfer them to another host you won't lose any time though, you'll just get another year on whatever the current expiration is.
Can you export a MySQL backup from their system? I'm sure there's a way-- once you do that, it'll be easy to import them into HG using phpmyadmin. For files, just grab everything in the public_html folder and then reupload it to your folder here. Let us know if you need more help!

You may also try Navicat to move the db from server to server.

But what about the Data bases?
I need to know if I can transfer my forum and gallery over from another host that also uses cpanel without having to set up new passwords etc. |

That's what I'm trying to explain. You need to create a new database in HG, then Navicat allows you to move its tables from the old host to HG. Easy.

Honestly I'd just use phpMyAdmin in HG to import the database export-- one click and you're done, it makes the tables and everything. Not sure about navicat but I don't see the reason for it in this situation.
Granted, for database administration and editing, local MySQL GUIs are often helpful.

It depends if phpMyAdmin is installed on his old host.

Whatever php software he uses there, isn't a MySQL export function nearly universal?

Should be a fairly easy transfer since it's cPanel to cPanel (it will carry over all of the settings, etc) The only thing you may need to set up again is adding addon domain pointers from the addon domain section of your cPanel here. |

cPanel does not exist at 1&1 - simply their custom made thing
![]() they do have cheap domain names though, so i may keep that part thanks for the help everyone |

I have a quick question regarding transferal. My old host uses cpanel too, and I downloaded backups of the databases etc. As I had 2 gb of data to download from the home directory backup, I decided to see about restoring the databases whilst I waited. It appeared to have been successful, but for each database, a second one was also created with the same name, but gzkey added on to the end of it? any idea what that was?
It'd been a long day so I decided to take the easy route and take HG on the free offer for transfer from an old host to a new one
