Default How do I know

Alright, I'm moving my hosting files over from godaddy. I've moved the database over and all the hosting files. Just changed the nameservers. Am I now being hosted by hostgator or does it take a bit of time?

After the nameserver change, that change has to propagate through the DNS system. Some DNS servers will pick up the change very quickly (like the ones at OpenDNS), but others might take a day or two.

Great that it's working for you.

As EarlyOut noted previously, DNS propagation worldwide can take 72 hours. If the DNS server you query has already updated, then you can see your site, but not necessarily the same for other people who query alternate DNS servers.

forget cmd.exe and pings, go pro = http://www.opendns.com/support/cache/

That thing will show you exactly what the WORLD Wide Webs think of you and your domain
in my cases when i buy domains from registrar to the moment I see pings pinging my server takes approx 1-4 hours, but it is true, if you are unlucky enough - it will take up to 48 hours, after that it is time to investigate what is up with that delay.
But I DNS my domains at zonedit and everydns.net, had business with Chinese registrars, they are pretty slow indeed

That is fine for a new domain as it has no pre-existing records spread around the world. The OP stated that he was MOVING a domain from a previous host. In this case the domain would have been fully propogated around the world with records on multiple DNS.

For all those servers to talk to each other and get the new records will take up to 72 hours.

It might take a few days to pick up. But I am sure it will be worth the wait. Best of luck to you.
