Default How do I import MySQL database?

I just purchased the Aluminum hosting plan and uploaded a site from my local computer yesterday. My local computer was hosting this website with php and mysql. How can I easily transfer the MySQL database to the HostGator Server? Secondly, can I manage MySQL using a 3rd party application such as SQLYog? I prefer SQLYog over PHPMyAdmin.

Thanks!

Do you have a way of creating a backup on your local computer of the MySQL database? You should be able to make a .sql file.

When you do this, go into PHPMyAdmin in CPanel, and upload your file to execute it.

I'm not sure if you can use another MySQL program or not, but of course CPanel has PHPMyAdmin in it.

Yes you can but you first have to add an Access Host for the computer your 3th party app is running on, otherwise you won't have access.
To do this go to your cPanel, select "MySQL Databases" and near the bottom of that screen add an Access Host. Easiest is to use a wildcard (%) in combination with the domain of your ISP like: %.yourprovider.com

I think this is exactly my problem. I get a 1044 "access denied" error when I try to import.

However, whenever I go to add anything to the Access Host list, it acts like it accepts it but I still only see "localhost" displayed in that list and I still get access denied trying to import.

Thoughts?

(This is the one thing I wish I had shell access for rather than having to use the php sql admin).

Ah, interestingly, adding Access Hosts started working once I created a user.

I still can't import, though, I get access denied on it. My ISP is comcast and my ipconfig does indeed show me as a "comcast.net" address, so shouldn't %.comcast.net allow it to work?

Nevermind:
Interestingly, it apparently had something to do with me doing the export wrong. Can't say I understand why, but it's working now.
