Hello there, I have just started to order a shared plan and I plan to be running a game server from my computer and I was wondering if I could set it up so that if the user connects to www.MyDomain.com:1234 (Using the game client to connect) it would forward the connection to a given ip (123.456.789.123:1234) ?

Do you mean running the game server from your own computer or your shared server?
If shared server, you may want to read the following link. http://www.hostgator.com/gettingstarted.shtml In particular 7a.) Resource Usage User may not: g) Run any gaming servers such as counter-strike, half-life, battlefield1942, etc But if you want to run from your own pc, your users need your IP address to connect which will not be the same as your domains IP.

Yeah, I did mean my own computer. I am considering getting a dedicated (They can run servers like that right?)
But I am not that new when it comes to networking and I know that it is possible to have a DNS refer to an IP (Because that's what the DNS was made for) if you want an example of what I'm looking for: DynDNS I was just wondering if the HostGator's nameservers have support for this. |

Hello,
You would need to make a subdomain that points to your IP with either an A or CNAME record. Make a support ticket saying something along the lines of this.... "I need SUBDOMAIN.yourdomain.com pointing to 123.123.123.123 as an A record". |

Ah yes, that would make more sense, thankyou.
(Also this would help for distinguishing between different servers) |
