Default Disk Space / Bandwidth Upgrade

Hello,

The new plans are for clients who upgrade, joined within 30 days of the new plan release effective immediately, and for our existing clients once we have upgraded the server that their sites are on.

Here's why.......
Just because our plans have increased that doesn't mean all the servers that are currently filled can handle the new plans . New servers being filled will have 25-35% less clients on them to be able to handle the larger plans. This policy has nothing to do with us trying to force upgrades, nor is it because we are greedy.

The cell phone companies have it easy. They first make you do the contract, then they can add towers where it's needed. We obviously can't add servers to your server since it's a single server that runs each box rather then a network. Nor is it easy moving a dozen or more sites from one server to another.

So we thought: "how can we increase our plans to remain competitive while it being fair to current customers, without overloading current servers which would result in more downtime?" (in a nutshell)

Here were our options:
- Give all the clients on filled boxes who joined prior to the new deals the new plans. This would result in = overloaded boxes / a lot more downtime
- Start converting our older servers to have larger hard drives for more storage room.

So where does our policy leave us:
Any new client that signs up for service will automatically be placed onto a server with the newer specifications. However, we certainly value the business of our existing customer base, so over the course of the new few months we will be seamlessly upgrading the existing servers to new chassis with higher capacity hard drives.

We ask that you would consider this:
What's better?
1. us never changing plans and you never having the option to get a better deal.
2. us changing plans and you being able to take advantage of the new plans.

If you'd like to get the new features now, you could also upgrade your plan at www.hostgator.com/upgrade.php to the next package up as well and that would upgrade to the new package specs.

Thumbs up Re: Disk Space / Bandwidth Upgrade

hi,
NICE to See great, amazing, attractive new webhosting plans...... they were needed here to kick those stupid hosts trying to show off, in my personal opinion they are no where near quality of service hostgator offers.

Web hosting plans are now just Amazingggggggg and iam thinking of upgrading one of my reseller plan soon.

best regards,
pk

In Hope to see new dedicated servers too.

Good to hear. I was thinking to myself, this is great but now the servers will probably be overloaded to no end, but as you explained this wont be an issue. Just cant wait to get upgraded!

The new upgrades sound great. I do wonder one thing however. If I upgrade, will I be moved to a new server since the server I am on has not been upgraded yet?

Also, when will all the servers have the new plans in place? I hope it is not going to be an issue like the webmail for resellers...

Thank you. That explains it real good (and I am a California Air Head) When I update the systems in our lab for more disk space it is a nightmare and all her foals - and there is no one using the systems and no data that is critical ...
You folk are amazing Thank you sooooooooo much

Nice update for the share and resellers hosting

I am now wonder, Is bandwidth will ever upgrade on dedicated server? Not that I am using it at full but to not over sell it.

Best regards,

Best regards,
I think they should offer a dedicated with more b/w and storage but for more per month cost wise. Some people could probably use more than 1500 gb month and are willing to pay for.

All of the other servers will be getting moved to the new servers with the much bigger hard drives 1,000Gb + on each server. This will take some time because we want to do it right and have absolutely _zero_ downtime.

As far as dedicated servers go, we always can add more bandwidth to the 1,500Gb. Normally it's $2/gb if you go over, but just PM me if you need more and I can get an extra bandwidth package for you for a much better rate.

Thanks for understanding and cooperation here, this should be for the best

Maybe I'm missing something here. Does this mean that existing reseller accounts will be upgraded and the space and bandwidth will be increased to match the new plans? Or is this only if I upgrade my plan?

It means you will automatically be upgraded, just give it a bit of time.

I have upgraded already from alum to copper and i am in 7g space..

I would prefer move my account to another server, i think mine it very crowded, almost always with hi loads, the this is i have lot of domain hosted that are based in ip (.pt domains) and i dont want to offer downtimes to my cleints.
on the other side, if i upgrade to silver, i will have space i dont need (for now) and i am sure i will stay in the same crowded server, and the 50usd are not for me yet..

any chance to upgrade accord server? he is realy needed the poor *******..

Cheers from portugal

ps: edtited, didnt now bastar.. was a bad word, replace it by "poor guy"

You don't have to change servers to get the new specs. All the current servers and current clients will get the upgrade automatically, just not instantly.

What we have is quite much already, and it works. Just give HG time to upgrade.

Actually, I was just told on the phone by support that this is not true.

Which pisses me off as I'd just spent the money to upgrade. I'd read of the new upgrades. I checked out this thread. Did a quick online support chat in which I specifically asked:

"I'm hosted woth you on a baby croc account and I wanred to confirm that if I upgrade now to "swamp" I'll get the new quotas etc. that just went into effect for swamp accounts. (I understand that my baby account will be eventually upgraded if I do nothing.)"

And the response was: "Yes."

So I upgraded via the page at http://www.hostgator.com/upgrade.php and wound up with a swamp account... with the old account limits.

Called support on the phone and was told that upgraded accounts were not being moved to the new servers.

So one of my accounts is a "swamp" created on Nov. 6th, my other account is a "baby" upgraded to "swamp" yesterday... but both still at the old limits.

I could easily have waited if the new servers were simply not going to be available even for upgraded accounts for a while, and indeed could have waited until everybody was automatically upgraded.

But what ticked me off is the fact that I was told one thing but then was told something quite different... after I'd spent money.

You could ask for a refund and downgrade.

I was also under the impression that if you upgraded to the next higher plan you would be put on the new quotas for that plan. Seems like one of the staff told us this in one of these threads.

To confirm, if you upgrade your plan to the next available one we will manually change your package to use the new features.

If you encounter any problems with this, just request that your ticket be assigned to me and I'll take care of it.

I upgrade my baby host to swap host at 8th Dec.
But I still have 10G host space, I think the traffic limit is not upgraded either.

As he said in the post YOU QUOTED, put in a ticket and have it sent to him and the change will be made. What could possibly be the problem?

You don't use all caps lightly, but it's easy to understand why you did....another post that made me laugh hard enough to wake up the dog (who doesn't completely understand the nuances of host firm humor).

After everything that goes on around here, I'd be surprised if your dog's not learning to appreciate the more interesting things about this forum.
