Default Directory Access and MP3 Suitability

I've heard good things about HostGator and I have a couple of questions before signing up.

1. Will I have access to place files in a directory above the public/html directory? Specifically, I'd like to put some files such as my PHP-MySQL connection scripts out of public view.

2. I'm a musician and would be selling/serving 40-50 MP3 files with some streaming samples. Is this an acceptable use for a HG shared hosting account?

yes you have access to a non web viewable folder

Should be allright but it would depend on how many files were getting streamed

As Sam said, that should be no problem. Just be sure to not go above your sever resource limit, as described here:
