I am new to this, but I learn fast.
I have just taken out a Baby account, and I want it for four blogs and one straightforward website. I have five domain names, all bought somewhere else, and all pointing at my hosting account. One is the main one, and the other four I have made add-ons. Is this how it should be for my purposes? I got the domain names pointing last night, so it will still take a while to update. I am still uncertain as to how I run five different sites with different domain names out of one hosting account. Of course I can see that it can be done, but still not sure how to go about it. I thought things would be a bit more self-explanatory. |

I think domain parking / parked domain just points to another web page / domain, whereas a regular domain name / add-on domain has its own space, cpanel, etc. For example, if a company owns multiple domain names / company, it might have a domain name point to another domain name it owns.
Can someone confirm? |

Hi Carol,
Welcome to HG. It is good that you are a fast learner. You should learn to use the search button on the forum and to read the resource section before you ask stupid question. ![]() http://forums.hostgator.com/showthre...+parked+domain |

They say that the only stupid question is the one that you don't ask. ;-)
I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. I had been looking all over for some form of elucidation. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! |

You have to hunt for the word "park", but I found this:
What is the difference between parked, addon, and subdomains? http://support.hostgator.com/index.p...kbarticleid=96 Quote:

Thanks.
It's weird though, cos I did browse the knowledgebase for the add-on domain thing, and couldn't find anything. Do you have to be logged into the knowledge base to browse it fully? |

searches a little weird depending on how you word things . . . maybe searching for "add-on" is not the same as "addon"?

park domain = opens same site using multiple domains.
add on domains = open 2nd domain from a sub folder of your hosting account and end users never know easily that you run multiple domains from one single account. |

I don't think there is a different in logging on or not.
Having said that there are a lot of "hidden" stuff around. Best is to experiment with different search terms when searching the forums. You are bound to find what you are looking for. Asking live support for the location of a document might also help. As a last resort, when all else fails, call for help (post in the forum) |

Yeah I thought rota919 was having a bad day, but couldn't help but see the wink...so I considered it in fun as she said she was a fast learner. rota has been nice and helpful on many occasions also.

Regular shared hosting and semi-dedicated accounts get one cPanel per HG account, no matter how many domains they host with that account. Reseller accounts and, optionally, dedicated server accounts, have the ability to create accounts, each with its own cPanel. Evan, although the original poster is a she (probably, per his/her name), rota919's name is Fred, and probably a he. |
