Hi,
I came from a reseller package but was forced to upgrade to VPS due to some scripts (magento) that heavily uses resources. But after browsing around the panel I realized that there is no more fantastico, I have a feeling that there might be more features missing (or added) here that I did not know about. Support pointed me to check out the vps page, which is kind of pointless since there isn't much info in there. Is there a page in hostgator.com that lists down those features? I seriously need to update my own features page to match the vps offering http://pinoguin.com/hosting/ , a comparison page would be great.

Hi,
I am using Level 3. Also now I lost whmcs, I had to pay monthly fees now this should've been noted for reseller migrators.

Look at this page to see if this helps:
http://support.hostgator.com/categor...-vps-virtuozzo If it doesn't, I would suggest creating a sales ticket (sales at hostgator dot com) to see if they can give you a list of features for you. |

I did just now, it doesn't explain much what is included. The whmcs was noted there but is not stated in the main page, fantastico isn't included here as well.
The support people merely pointed me to the vps and dedicated pages =/ So from what I've seen so far: - No fantastico (paid) - No WHMCS (paid) + Magento capable on vps

I'm a bit surprised that Fantastico is not included. On my unmanaged dedi it was not installed but a ticket to support was all it took to get it installed. HG is developing their own installer and that is available for use on VPS according to this thread on installing Quick Installer on Dedi or VPS. I installed it on my dedi. You may need to install subversion first.

I was surprised as well and was/am trying to find more information.
I echo your suggestion. Drop HG a support ticket to see if you can get it installed. |

I thought I would be saving money on a vps but then there's this hidden set of fees for the licenses (whmcs is about 200-300$ or a monthly fee, fantastico is 195$/yr) Another set of programming features I'm curious about:
I think we can cross out PHP here, I don't know about Ruby, Perl, etc. I believe imagemagick works, not sure about the rest. They should be installable by ticket support I think. I have no idea about frontpage, so I removed it temporarily in my offers. My transition from reseller to vps went smooth (except for some 17hr delay they won't tell me why it took that long to get started) but It would be great know these details because of the added fees I'm suffering here. I understand the reseller should have the *most* features, scripts and freebies that vps may not have.... but the details are either hidden or non existent.

The Quick Install should work fine on the client accounts. I don't care much for the quick installers but have tried it out and it seems to work as well as Fantastico and has more script options. I only had Fantastico installed to be able to test things when folks asked questions about it here in the forums.
The languages and modules you mentioned should be available, you just may need to install them. I would not advertise offering Front Page Extensions personally. It is no longer supported by MS. |
