How can I get WHM to default to "my" name servers instead of hostgator's when creating a new domain? Would save a lot of time editing the zone.

Got a reply from support.
Even though when I create a new domain in WHM and the result screen shows hostgators nameservers listed .... when someone does a WHOIS , "my" name servers will be the ones shown. So as I understand it, we don't actually have own own name servers. We have "virtual" ones, that hide hostgators. Edward |

By now you have to do this step manually (as you state on the first post). It would be nice if HOSTGATOR will setup WHM reseller panel so, when you create a new account, automatically the DNS zone is pointing to our "private" nameserver. HOSTGATOR can you do this for us? Thank you Marco |

Using WHM I edited the zone for a domain and changed the NS records to be my virtual servers. Been a couple of weeks since and still get the red flags at dnsreport for missing stealth servers. But at the top of the report, it does show my NS's, as well as a whois will. If I do not edit the dns zone in WHM and leave the NS as gator's .... a whois wtill shows my NS ... which is good ... but the same red flags for missing stealth servers showw up in dns report. Works the same no matter how you do it on our end. Would have to be something modified on gator's end I guess. Not sure if any of this really matters ... or at which situation it will matter. I do have a site where I will be adding an MX record soon so a biz can handle their own mail with an in-house exchange server. I'm wondering if it might affect reverse lookups? Edward |

SOA records: from "ns13.websitewelcome.com." to "ns1.mydomain.com." and from "root.jeep.websitewelcome.com." to "root.ns1.mydomain.com." (other minor modification in the "refresh" and "expire" values) NS records: from ns13.websitewelcome.com. to ns1.mydomain.com. and from ns14.websitewelcome.com. to ns2.mydomain.com. That's all. The mods have to work immediately (no wait for "propagation"), because www.dnsreport.com read these values from "our" server. By now I have only some "WARN" on: "Nameservers on separate class C's" "NS TTL discrepancy" [TTL 172800 at parent; 14400 at 69.93.237.34] "Multiple MX records" (only 1 record) "Mail server host name in greeting" (my domain vs the server name) "Acceptance of domain literals" Marco |

acutally you can edit your DNS Zone Template files and all new accounts will default with your private nameservers and all. You can even add the SPF record to your tempalte file so all new accounts will have an SPF record.
