Default Dedicated Servers, Resollers, a pinch of madness

A client of mine who acts something like a reseller has had their host decide to leave the hosting portion of their business. Since Hostgator came well reviewed, I was pointed here to ask more pointed questions.

The customer presently has a dedicated server and acts as a reseller via CPanel with the existing provider. It's a smidge inobvious to me from the sell sheets if this is permitted on a dedicated server.

All of the remaining questions refer to the dedicate servers class of accounts.

Which version(s) of Centos are supported?

How much control of the horizontal and the vertical will the client have? If they feel compelled to bounce a box, can they, or does that require a call?

The backup to secondary disk option mentioned in the sell sheet, is that an LVM mirror? A nightly cpio?

The customer would like to load balance via mod_proxy_balancer (assuming that work in a reverse proxy configuration - still research that ) is that going to be permitted?

Who is responsible for the package maintenance?

That's a pretty good start.

We load the servers with CentOS 5.4. We do support earlier versions as some of our customers need certain versions for their software.

Not sure what you are meaning by bouncing a server. Rebooting? We have a form for that and is done within 15 minutes. You will have root access so you can restart services as needed.

The backups are cron jobs set up in WHM.

You are free to set up the servers as you like as you are the only one on there.

We can update the software for you if needed. There is also an option within WHM.

Bounce is a common term for restarting whether at service or server level. I guess it's not quite everywhere though.

And does root mean a UID 0 login or sudo? If I need to send a form in for a reboot, does that mean init is inaccessible?

I'll just have to look at the task and see how it's mirroring the disk.

I didn't see an answer to the question about reselling on a dedicated box. Is this permitted?

Thanks.

I checked with the admins and he wasn't sure what you meant by init but said you can reboot it yourself. The reboot form is if the server is locked up/inaccessible and it needs a physical reboot.

Yes, it is the actual root user.

You can resell on a dedicated server. Since you have root access you can do what you like as long as it is legal and not against TOS.

Ah. Good distinction to have clarified.

Then we're good.

Thank you.
