Cool Re: Dedicated Server Updates

i got a dedicated server mid april, saw the deal a few weeks later and emailed asking if there was a way to be included. i was told no dice, but i think i emailed support, not sales. i'm not sure, to be honest. but i know that probably makes no difference, since it wasn't days, but weeks.

after seeing the deal extended, it's not like the same idea didn't occur to me to get a new one and cancel the old one. but i know that's not right so i'm not going to do it. my integrity is worth more than $660.

if i had ANY clue it was coming, i would have would have waited. it would have been nice to have the option. while i think it is a killer deal, this whole thing was a big, fat wet blanket on my first dedicated server purchase. i understand it can't reasonably be extended to everyone who's gotten a dedicated, but man. it sucks to miss out.

perhaps in the future, hg could consider letting people know there is an upcoming promotion? something to think about...

For the price, its almost worth getting a new server and starting over!

i know that would be beneficial to me financially. it just doesn't feel right. i mean, i have 24 accounts on my server now, for chrissakes and i'll be moving one big account over at the end of the month-reason for getting the dedicated to begin with. i'd have to pay for configserver again, but that's still over $500/cheaper.

honestly, i would have preferred to have the option to get the deal directly than have to feel like i'm going about it in an underhanded way, you know?

Weseriously considered it also, but have decided not to as there is nothing wrong with the price we paid for ours and we are happy with it. Still would have been nice

yeah, i think the price is fair for a managed solution, or i wouldn't have gotten one to begin with. you're right. and i understand you have promotions to drive new clients, not necessarily to reward your existing clients.

but yeah, i'm with you. still would have been nice.

Compare and contrast the response here, where we're basically saying "It'd be nice to have, but we still think we're getting a good deal and don't want to screw HG" (I'm with you guys by the way, on that, only missed it by a month or so too) with the shared plan upgrade thread, where people are becoming almost violent because new customers get a better deal, even though I'd guarantee 99% of them aren't even using the space they already have.

There is a big difference between the two crowds. I think anyone spending more than $100 a month on hosting is going to be a bit more professional and responsible. Plus, dedicated people have more of a vested interest in their host, because they have, in many cases, partnered with the host, which the low end crowd is more interested in just getting what they can out of it before the jump ship for the next good deal.

Well, I was thinking if you were doing it as a part of an upgrade, its a bit too much work if you are doing a same server swap out.

yeah, if i needed to upgrade, i'd be all over it, man. i even kinda wanted a reason to need a second server at that deal. but i'm not there yet.

i guess i'll quit whining and be glad i'm in classier, less violent company now that i've grown up and got my very own box.

I think moving from shared to dedicated is an important step for a hosting provider. Once you've moved past shared hosting, you have really made it to the point where you can offer a quality service that is reliable and customizable.
