dedicated server renew question

ok i don't have enough cash to get a dedicated server for a year,so if i purchased a dedicated server on a month by month basis,what happens for example if I pay for 1 month,and then when the month is up and I don't renew it,will my dedicated server be cancelled straight away?

For Shared hosting they have a 10 day allowance so you can be 10 days late, it isn't taken off right away, but you will have to pay the late fee etc, I don't see this being any different for dedicated customers.
