I am considering a reseller account with hostgator for my web development clients.
Does each reseller account come with a dedicated IP? I am concerned about dynamic IPs because of the possibility of having clients' sites blocked on the basis of someone else's site hosting adult content, or spamming. |

The world has an ip shortage until the whole system is restructured. The future system will have enough ips to give the entire planet an ip per sq foot. There is a governing body called ARIN that forbids sites to have a dedicated ip without justification. Justification pretty much only includes a site that needs a private ssl.
Because of this google could get in a lot of trouble penalizing sites simply because they are on the same ip. What google does do is look for link farms trying to boost one anothers page rank. So unless you have a ton of sites linking to your site all on the same ip it can't hurt you. Google doesn't penalize for sites linking to you. Google does penalize for sites you link to that are bad. Nobody knows for sure but that's my take on it... And if they did penalize based on the same ip we would have entire servers with no page rank. To answer your question thought all accounts come with a couple shared ips for private name servers. You can purcahse dedicated ips for $2 a month.
