Arrow Dedicated Backup servers

hostgator should have Dedicated Backup servers like theplanet does. Why doesn't hostgator have these currently? They should be easy to setup shouldn't they?

Why should they? Feel free to get them from the planet, or, for a cheaper price, just get the standard dedicated and add an extra hard drive.

Some firms woud like to be fully redundant, I dont relly on 1 server aswel for my busniss even if its in raid configuration there still can go something rong. But supose woudt be to much of a problem for hostgator to provide this sort of a service?

It probably could be easy... but that's dumb...

Why would you want your backups at the same location your website is at??? There's good solutions out there for decent prices...

Well if you provide backup services for stores, postal offices, etc. You are the last resort of data. If you loose it you can be accounted responsible for it.

So a medium firm crashes there server and they want to use the backup on mine. Lets say my server crashes and the raid cant take over. Then im accounted responible for damage caused by not able providing them acces to there files. So raid + duel redudant servers is the best way to go to insure 100% security.

I find it funny how internet service providers put so much in there service level agreement wish about 60% of it is fiction not true by law. I mean some even put we cant be accounted responsible for any data loss. I mean if I put that on my site I might claim that but the court will say difrent

Yes...we're both saying we agree about the backups, however, why get them at Hostgator? The best plan is to get a backup machine with a company NOT affiliated with Hostgator, in a datacenter that's different from where your server is.

Hm woudt entirly agree on that, your datacenter hasent bin under attack my natural or people attacks for past years? And so I think it woud be a safe option to house it next to the server itself. Also saves cost on transferring the files over and over each day backups.

Didn't you mention the word redundant earlier in the thread?? Having backups sitting in the box beside you is hardly redundant...

Well redundant can be many things, backup routers backup firewalls backup servers if 1 fails etc. Thats the case of full redundant. A fail save network right?

In this scenario, one of three things is true:

a) You are a real expert, have redundant dedicated servers at several firms and don't need to buy plans labeled "Backup" because your own setups are better done and more reliable.

b) You're smart enough to subcontract this out to a specialized backup service provider, like the one described in the preceding paragraph.

c) You're dumb enough to be making guarantees that you try to operate on the cheap. In this case, get a USB keychain drive and hope nothing ever happens.

If your only backups are with the same company and in the same datacenter as the main location, your backup isn't safe enough. There's two kinds of backups: backups to get files that are needed back, and backups to recovery from disaster. The first one, sure, get a second hard drive or another HG server. The second one, you need to get a backup somewhere completely different than HG.
