Several of my clients use RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable Broadband) for an ISP. For the past few hours, those particular clients have been unable to access my (thier) sites - Although they have no other problems surfing the web.
I'm on Verizon and I'm telling them that thier sites are up and I can't tell them anything useful. I've heard similar situations described as a "dead hop", but I thought those were permanent (until the ISP or host did some upgrading). This seems to be intermittent. Any idea what's going on? Is there anything that I or HG can do here? |

I've had issues with my ISP in the past dropping my IP's from their router table. The only thing I could do to fix it was call them and speak to a tech and explain the problem.

Well I made some noise at Time Warner and they responded by pointing me here:
http://dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=YOURDOMAIN.COM Many failures and warnings are displayed including: Missing (stealth) nameservers, Missing nameservers 2, Stealth NS record leakage. And several RFC violations. So as much as I like to tell my clients that the problem is with thier ISP, that's impossibe to stand behind when they see this. (And they will if they complain to thier ISP). I'm sure there's little I can do to correct these issue - hopefully HG will take a look and try to clean up it's act a bit. |

I've spotted the same errors as Thomas has, some time ago actually, and was wondering....
Just forgot to bring it up here, but since Thomas has, I hope that it gets sorted out soon. |

I did not intend to start a fire here. My client can't access his own site. He blames me, I blame RoadRunner, RoadRunner blames me, I blame HG, HG blames Road Runner, the registrar blames RoadRunner...................... What I do know is that he can connect using the IP, so it's a DNS or nameserver issue, not a connection issue. I'm fairly certain that this is RoadRunners problem but I'll never convince my client. He can see every site on the planet except his own! And then RoadRunner sends him this report showing every little flaw in my service. Makes me look like an idiot. You're right, the site looks fine to me. But, I will say I am using RR (nc.rr.com) and have had similar issues with them before when I made dns changes. I understood when it was Network Solutions (horrible), but when I changed a couple at GoDaddy (usually very quick) everyone else in the company was seeing the changes after 2 days and it took me 6 days! I talked with RR and explained it was probably that they were behind in updating their zone files, etc. but it didn't do much good! I'm not a big fan of their customer service if that's what you want to call it. Good luck!

Hi all,
I had the same problem and I resolved it by going in to WHM and editing my dns zones. I changed all references of nsx.websitewelcome.com. to nsx.mydomain.com. (with the period on the end.) That fixed all of the failures for me. There are still warnings that I am getting that I am trying to work out. WARNING: I don't know if there are any adverse effects to doing this, so maybe the HG staff can tell you. Of course, if it doesn't work you can always change it back. - Justin |

Now here's the good news. I just got a response from my latest rant to RoadRunner.... - enjoy! Quote:

Good luck with that, I have also found RoadRunner (also Time Warner here in NC) to be very slow to update their DNS, where others could access things, or I could access from an alternate connection days before I could from RR.
By the way, regarding custom DNS, I posted a question on this topic recently with very little response. I was wondering if Justin and some of the others more knowledgeable in this area would mind contributing to that thread... http://forums.hostgator.com/showthread.php?t=1222 Thanks, Karsten |
