Default Database issue but fixed immediately...

Hi there. I've been hosting several sites with HG for probably going on four months now. There have been times when I submitted minor issues and they were always fixed promptly and professionally (aside from some minor language barrier issues that seemed to have been overcome).

On Saturday, 10/30/04, I experienced a database crash on my PHP/MySQL driven site. This pretty much crippled the site and every application associated to it including webmail. I worked with Monica via the online chat and Christine via email to get the issue resolved. Monica had the patience of a saint as she worked in resolving the issue (which was a full temporary partition on the MySQL drive). She was thankful for the links I sent which highlighted the various error message definitions and had the site back up and running in 45 minutes. She also worked with me to fix the corrupt tables within the databases after the partition space was freed up.

I'm making a little money off this site and would like to eventually operate the site full-time, if I can. It gets about 1k hits a day and is the only online community site for the subject matter the site pertains to. This site adds a level of income to me and having it go down affects my credibility and wallet. HG, particularly Monica and Christine, stayed with me to ensure the site came up quickly and without error. I just wanted to commend them and HG for their professionalism and candor.

Keep up the excellent work!

Regards,
Kory

Kory thank you for being a positive person and seing the good. =)

If I was to guess I would say 9 out of ten people would be saying we are a horrible host because of the problem with /tmp filling which we had to emtpy.

Tmp is usually filled by a couple different things.

1. someone having an insecure script and a hacker being able to fill it with garbadge

2. a site having some type of harmfull upload system on their site that uses up all of /tmp before whatever it's uploading before it's done running causing it to hit a 100% and jam.

3. same as 2 but user doing something from the cpanel with backups that are to large to be done via a control panel.

It could be anyones fault on the server, but the chances of it being you would be slim since there are around a 100 clients on your box.

Thank you for your kind words.

LOL! I've been there, Brent. But, you're welcome. I'm certainly not going to abandon HG over something that I don't think was your fault in the first place, as you mention below.

I realize this might be a difficult request but is there anyway to clean out the /tmp partition via a cron job, perhaps hourly or whatever? I understand it may be difficult to track the cause for the issue at hand but since /tmp is just that, perhaps it could be cleaned out at scheduled intervals.

Should I be doing something on my end to ensure this doesn't keep happening?

Thx much for your response, Brent!

Regards,
Kory
