How customisable is the phpbb forum?

Hi,

Was just wondering how much we can customise the supplied phpbb forum. For instance on one site on the web I found they had own icons for ranking a member (e.g. one cat junior member, 5 cats senior etc). I paid a visit to the phpbb web site but this doesn't tell me how much I can actually customise it using my hostgator set up. Are they are things specfically which we cannot customise using it ?

Your looking for mods. People have made their own add-ons for phpBB just find one that suits your needs. If the site above doesn't help, goto google and search for "phpBB mods".

I strongly am against any type of mods. Just the other day we had to kick someone who had 50 mods going and was crashing the server. With every page hit there were a 1000 mysql connections being made from what his new host is saying. They are about to kick him now as well.

Stay for away from any mods as they lead to problems.

Stay away from a lot of mods. The more you get obvisoly the more they will put a strain on the server. Just keep 'em simple.
