Default Is that cupon thing still available?

The thing where you only pay a single penny? Thanks in return.

Yes it is still available using the 404 page coupon:

https://secure.hostgator.com/billing...ckage&zsubmit=

Coupon: 404PAGE

The package is the Baby in the Shared Hosting category that is $9.95USD per month

Best Regards,

Unless it's been changed, you can buy any package with the coupon--if it costs more, $9.94 will be deducted from the first month's charges.

Somewhat dumb question...I know the coupon is for "new customers only", but since people with a shared hosting account cannot upgrade to dedicated, only buy one afresh, does that count as "new customer" for the purpose of using a coupon?

Good question!

It depends on how Hostgator setup the ModernBill application for the coupon code but as you say:

Quote:
I know the coupon is for "new customers only"
I would suggest that you would not be a new customer since you already have a account with them unless you choose 'New Customer' and sign up with a new paypal account or a new credit card number that is not the same as on file right now.

Let's try it!

Best Regards,

Well, the screen to order stuff--reached through link, not through the fancy category marketing pages--asks for the coupon before it calculates prices and then assumes you're a new customer if you use one.

That makes logical sense for the ordering process, and it's certainly not worth 9.94 to me to piss off HG or not be able to have HG move my stuff from the shared account, but it does seem to be a gray area.

Particularly since we are talking about a second account since shared to dedi isn't an "upgrade", the two have to both exist until the shared is canceled.

It looks like if you want to be billed completely separately from the first you could probably do it, but the hassle to save <$10 once may not be worth it.

When using the coupon, the 'add this to my existing account' is not available. You have to create a new account with the use of the 404page coupon.

It would then be for new customers onlyif talking about the 404page one: Is customers are verified with first name last name or username or any other?

Best Regards,

Isn't your first paragraph what I said?

I wasn't trying it with the 404page coupon, but another one.

Without the coupon, you get two choices when presented with the calculated total: new customer or add to account.

With the coupon, you get only the first.

The "add to account" option then asks for the email address and password, and when that's ok, presents you with your name and address. But you have to give them fresh payment info just as if you were a total stranger.

Whoops, I'm sorry--I got one from http://www.hostgatorcoupons.com. But I'd expect that when ordering through the vanilla order link, http://www.hostgator.com/order.shtml, which I did, any valid coupon code would trigger the same behavior.

Do you really think it is representative of your nick to post your affiliate page lonk in HG's forum whereas the only users seeing this would have already come here with possibilities of signing up?
