It would be nice to have, on cPanel (or any other web interface at HostGator), a tool that provides CPU use information for the account.
Just as currently we can view disk space and bandwidth usage (in a glance), it would be very useful to see where we are standing in terms of CPU use. Best such information would include (perhaps even graphically):

That's a good idea but it would probably lead to increased CPU to process the information.

Such a monitor is currently not available in Entire Industry.
Currently such a task can be done by only root user of the server. To be able to get those data at customers' end, would need many system functions which can be a security risk. So although your Idea seems good, but currently their are Technical Limits where this could affect adversely to a few. |

This topic has been discussed and HG has responded. Right now, if they were to implement this, then it would increase CPU usage incredibly and could shutdown a server. They have said that they are looking into ways to achieve this without the CPU usage, but as of right now, there is nothing that they could do.
While a very good idea, and a lot of customers would use this sort of thing, its not practical or feasible at this time. |

This is exactly right. The data is already available, it will not take extra cpu. All cpanel will do is parse the data that is already available.

That is a great news. Hope this once implemented will make life easy for both hosts and users who take up a lot of CPU. There used to be many people who feel like cheated when hosts ask them to live. This is especially true now a days most hosts offering insane amount of space and bandwidth and customers not being able to use even a fraction of it. Some amount of transparency is always welcome.

As noted finally in my original post on the subject, this feature was implemented recently, in part. There is now a live monitor for CPU and Memory usage, amongst other things. There is no long-term trend data available, however.

Agreed. In addition, you can login through shell and use the 'top' command to view CPU usage.
It has been discussed to release an unbranded version of our cPanel theme for reseller accounts. I am not sure if they have decided to make one, let alone the status, but when our Customer Service manager sees the thread, he might be able to offer more information than I have available. |
