Default Cpanel migration

I've got approximately 30 sites on a Cpanel host now, with MySQL databases on many of them (PhpBB forums, CubeCart, etc...)

Can I expect a seamless transition if I decide to move to HostGator? How does it work, do you move the sites for me?

I do not beleive that the sites will be transferred for you, unless some policies have been changed of which I am not aware.

With CPanel it is easy to do this yourself. Just follow the instructions in the link provided in the above post for no downtime. You do not have to use ftp. Follow the instructions here to use the backup function in CPanel.

**EDIT**

Esl pointed out that the link referenced in his post does state that they will move the sites for you. I am not certain if they are talking about resellers with multiple sites as well, or if they are referring to shared clients. I will try to have someone clarify that.

Although HostGator does its best to assist in the transition from old host to new, there are limitations to the ability on our end.

We do list and state that we move clients and files over as stated above, however that is only feasible for shared hosting clients who in turn purchase a package with 1 primary domain name.

As a reseller, you should follow the instructions on downloading full CPanel backups of the accounts being moved, create the accounts in your new WHM, and then merely upload the backups. Voila

I had this same problem several hosts ago... They tried to move my sites, but didn't get all the database stuff.. I mostly had to start over.. I hope you have better luck...

I do not believe HostGator does "its best" to assist in the transition. Additionally, the various emails about HostGator assisting new clients with moving over to HG are very much misleading.

When I moved to my former host, I purchased a reseller account and asked them to help in the transition (as they had promised in their sales literature). They did it without any problems whatsoever, and without any delay. Once I gave them the account names and passwords for the several accounts I wanted moved, it was completed pronto- without any real downtime and without wasting my time.

I am not moving from them because of any service issues ... I am moving to HostGator because of several feature additions. However, I am annoyed with HostGator over this transition business, because I learned from my experience with my previous host that moving (or copying) accounts from one host to another -- when both use cPanel -- is a painless and forthright affair.

In the few days that I have been acquainted with HostGator, I have seen far too many requests for you to help resellers move their accounts where your response has been a weak "do it yourself" -- even though it can be (and should be) done painlessly by HG staff.
