Question cPanel Branding and adding icons & groups

I was wondering if anyone in this board has experience with branding their cPanel front end. I need to add a group and icons and am not having luck. I have been going through the instructions on the cPanel Website: Developer Area

The icons/plugins seem easy to make with the automated plugin creator on their site. My issue is how to add a group. I am not quite sure what dynamicui.conf to add my code to. The one I found is in /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/x3

Thanks
Pete

Wow I decided to revisit this little bit of time waster seeing if someone has created an icon or group for cPanel. BUMP. Guess no one has. Anyone? Documentation isn't that good.... even with their little widget maker

Hi,

First I would make sure to not modify the x3 theme as it will be overwritten by upcp

Quote:
An example of a dynamicui.conf file can be found in the following location:
  • /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/x3/dynamicui.conf
Note: This is the configuration file that is responsible for generating the default cPanel interface. Edits will be overwritten by updates.
Duplicate the theme and give it a new name.

Have you looked at cpanel forums. I've found just a few thread about adding groups but it could help you very much.

Good luck !

Just want to add more..

You can also use WHM > Branding > (select the theme you want to modify) and click on Live Editor.

If you take a look for Edit this style under a theme and go over the advanced feature where you can modify the index.html and add you new box.

More info: if you go to http://cpanel.net/developer/overview.html and check under Display Group and select --New Group--

Thanks, I have been reading through the documentation and some forums but am still a little confused, or rather I don't feel comfortable messing with cPanels yet.

They make it seem much easier on their site than it seems to be. Plus I saw several cui files. I'm gonna give this a whirl and see how it goes. Thanks

Have you downloaded the free reseller book that HG has? It's section on branding cPanel is pretty straight forward.

I have that book, it is a must have!

I am in the dynamcui file and I can't make heads or tails of it in notepad. Do you think I should use PHPedit or some other editor? I can see it clearly in PHPedit but the group I added is not showing. I am not sure if I have to actually add icons for it to show up. I tried clearing my browser cache too.

Oh I got it to show. I put an icon in the group and the group shows.

PHPedit seems to be a decent editor for this .conf file

What was confusing me was another dynamcui.conf file that HG uses for quickinstall. That is in a separate directory. I need to edit that and move it to my new group

I use TextPad for for pure text editing and dreamweaver of the pretty stuff. Notepad is not a tool I recommend for editing files, but that's just my opinion.

I don't like notepad but i like using dreamweaver for code editing. My problem with dreamweaver is that it destroyed .phtml files I was editing. I managed to create the group and add a link. I tried to add a second but it didn't work. I have to play with it more.
