Default cPanel Alternatives

I have the Level 2 VPS plan. Apparently this plan does not support cPanel, meaning I'd have to spend an extra $20/mo to upgrade AND get cPanel.

I am willing to install an open source control panel solution, and there are many good options. The ones I've been seriously considering are:
* Webmin
* ispCP Omega (formerly VHCS)
* SysCP
* ISPConfig

However, as this is all for testing and development purposes of my own projects, none of these options seem like quite what I need. Webmin is serious overkill and not well organized for my needs -- I just need to be able to configure new domains, email accounts, etc. On the other hand, the other three (and most others I've found) are all based around a three-tiered "reseller" system. You have the Admin account, which creates reseller accounts; the Reseller account, which creates hosting client accounts; and the client account, which can setup their own domain and subdomains.

What I really want is a unified, self-hosting system where I login and create virtual hosts (domains), email accounts on those domains, manage databases, etc; without having to worry about a reseller account. Does anything like that exist??

You may also like to consider not installing a "control panel". If you have some time, spend a while learning to work with linux and you can do away with the control panel all together.

Hello,

You might find the following page interesting:

http://wiki.debian.org/HostingControlPanels

I can't personally speak for any of them (although I did try out ISPconfig a while back, and thought it was pretty neat) but some have demos that you can play around with.

If you don't like vanilla Webmin, try out the Virtualmin plugin. It makes the entire experience much better. They now have both a commercial and free version for this.

My question is, how to install those controls? Where to put the files (installers) Can I use Virtuozzo to do it or shall I use SSH? A link will be greatly appreciated.

There are walk through tutorials for ISPConfig (linked one below) and probably for the others you listed.

If your account is Level 1, it may not be a good idea to use ISPConfig, as it uses roughly 256mb memory. I'm not aware of how much memory the others use.

Here's a tutorial for ISPconfig setup:
http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-se...64-ispconfig-3

HowToForge may have tutorials for the others you listed.
