Default What is covered in the reseller transfer?

Hi,

I am planning to transfer from another reseller provider to a Hostgator reseller account. I have seen the reseller domain transfer document, but I still have some queries:

1) I keep essential mail archived on the mail servers without downloading them. The first time I spoke to live support I was told it would be possible to transfer mail from the mail server of my old host to the HostGator mail servers. The second time I used live support I was told this was not possible.

What's the right answer here? Mail transfer will be critical for me. If Hostgator can't do it, is there any tool I can use to transfer to the HG mail servers myself?

2) A couple of the domains the to be transferred have Wordpress installed. Can the transfer service move this? This is less critical as I can always do this myself if necessary.

Thanks in advance!

No, it's Plesk.

Would that make a difference? Is it something to do with the XML-RPC feature in CPanel?

The difference is that cPanel transfers are easy and just about automatic. Plesk isn't so easy to move and can make moving mail painful.

Get what ever you want to do in writing...

So I can get my mail transferred if I am using CPanel, but not if I am using Plesk?

No, moving the mail if you have cPanel is easy, automatic and usually failure free. Moving it under Plesk is not as easy, is error prone and can take longer. sales@hostgator.com can tell you if they CAN do it.

my advice is to contact sales or support directly with these kinds of questions, as opposed to using live chat support. live chat is by far the weakest link in the hg support food chain, and the results you get are simply not consistent.

moving from plesk to cpanel, most likely they'll tell you they'll do their best but won't promise things.

during the process, keep your old server in place, backup everything, and plan the move for off-hours. don't reply to a support ticket requesting an update-that's the one thing that live chat is good for doing.

ULTIMATELY, i've never had any issues come up that i couldn't work out with HG support, which is better than i can say for many hosts. however, it sometimes take patience and perserverance. if you don't understand something or it's not the way it should be, you have to keep on it until you're satisfied it works.

on wordpress and accounts with databases, when i did my first move to hg, i did have to go into the cpanels mysql area for each and set up the user/pass there for access to the database. the rest of the stuff worked fine, but i was going cpanel/cpanel.

good luck!
