Hello, I have a few questions concerning semi-dedicated.
1. If you ran two pretty popular blogs (each with a different domain.) on a semi dedicated, in your opinion, would that be to much? I'm talking in terms of views/visits per day/month. 2. Assuming two popular blogs with a lot of hits per day/month was to much for a semi dedicated, would having one of the blogs on a sub domain make a difference? 3. Say you're on a semi-dedicated, but all of sudden need to be upgraded to a dedicated, would HG do that automatically? Sorry if these come off as newbie questions. Thank you, |

Please be a lot more specific. How popular is popular? What are you talking in terms of hits, bandwidth, etc?

Basically, what I'm trying to ask is: How much is to much for a semi-dedicated? How much can a semi-dedicated handle?
In my opinion, popular would be 25,000 to 30,000 visits a day. Assuming the wordpress blog has has all its pictures hosted on flickr and podcasts hosted with a podcast service (linking to podcasts through blog posts). No flash or anything, just a normal layout. I remember someone, I believe his name was "serra" (he posted very informative posts and is well known on this forum)or something like that, said something along the line of being able to go crazy on a semi-dedicated in terms of people visiting. However, I'm curious whether this is still the case if two domains are on the semi dedicated. I hope that explained things a little better. |

I would think you would need a dedicated server for such a popular website. You could request a live sales chat and ask HostGator what they would advise you purchase based on your websites' "hits" etc..

#1 I think that with all of the content hosted remotly, you will be fine on a simi-dedicated... however you will be far more pleased with the speed and configurability of a dedicated.
#2 No it wouldn't make a difference #3 Yes they will gladly upgrade you from the $60 to $170 / month plan and help you move your stuff. However they will charge you to downgrade. |
