Hi there, I'm aware this is an old topic but I'm getting this same error. I'm unable to find the specified path (/var/cpanel/Counters/sheitmar.dat in my case) so I can't try changing the chmod settings. Any help would be great!

The counter not working is a cpanel bug.
The way not to install it is by visiting ip/cpanel when doing it this way you run into this problem. So go delete your counter then login at yourdomain.com/cpanel and install it again. That should fix your problem.
