In HG's knowledgebase there is a page "Private Name Servers": http://www.hostgator.com/privatenameservers.shtml
That page explains how to register the private nameservers in the registrar, but there are no instructions on how to create the A records for the private nameservers. I have seen it many times in this forum that people are following the instructions, and still their private nameservers do not work correctly, due to the lack of the A records.

I'm stuck in this conundrum right now!!
My HG reseller information tells me to go to HG.com/domains if I want to transfer my domain to HG. SO I DID. After digging deeper and deeper in the FAQ, I found that HG offers FREE Enom Reseller accounts. (http://www.hostgator.com/enomreseller.shtml) SO I SIGNED UP. My confirmation email tells me that it is a Retail account; NOT A Reseller account. The Reseller Account now requires an additional request and pre-paid deposit of $100. So, I am stuck. I just had my domain transferred within/to HG.com/domains. The WHOIS states that ENOM is the Registrar. However, I do not see my domain within the Enom (Retail) Control Panel. The Private Name Server setup instructions suck. There is NO information how to do this within HG.com/domains. I just submitted a huge email/ticket to Support. I hope they can clear up this situation very soon. If I have any luck, I will let you all know whats up. Ryan |

Learned that the hard way.
So much for providing 'details". |

I learned the hard way to use a third party dns.
Point your domain name once and for all to the free to cheap 3rd party dns, if you switch hosts or servers with in the same host, change the 3rd party dns to point to a different ip address. No propagation delay required ever again. Just make sure you have at least 1 dedicated ip address. Easy as pie.

Hostgator.com/domains and the enom interface itself have no connection to each other when setup. Hostgator.com/domains is Hostgator's own eNom reseller account (which enom brands as registryrocket).
To have your domain in your eNom control panel, you'll likely need to initiate a transfer from there.
