At this moment in time, I'm really considering Hostgator as a potential new host.
Let me say right off, I've been with Dathorn for almost a year now and have had virtually no problems with them or their service, but a recent problem occured where from what I hear, one of my sites were hacked and my members all spammed. Ever since, I notice that my sites are always being spammed by a certain IP range. Anyway, its hard for me to leave them, but think a change may be needed, if for nothing else, my users satisfaction. So...on to my questions ![]() I currently use 2 different URLs and from what I'm seeing, the Swamp plan will be along the lines of what I need. I will be in need of transfering my databases over (currently VBB) so I'm curious to know if the Telnet feature of your Cpanel is in fact active so as to make the importing of my databases (and moving for that matter) easy and painless. In addition, I want to verify that I will in fact be able to host my 2 domains and how is that done. Is it done via a WHM (reseller) to set up a main site and my secondary site...I ask because I really don't want a reseller account. Or is it simply set up by pointing my 2ndary DNS to a particular folder on the site. (still debating if I should manually redirect my 2nd url to a folder and mask it) How real is the 24/7 support? I see many companies always offer it and have been burnt more times than I can count without being able to contact support when problems poped up. How many curstomers does Hostgator currently have and how many customers are assigned to a server. (hope that makes sense). Think that takes care of my initial questions. Thank you for your time. |

Swamp only has a single cpanel account. You would be able to manage both your domains from that single cpanel. It's called an "addon domain"
Everything will work, just from the single control panel. We could give you shell / telnet for you to import your databases in. Then once you are done we would remove shell. 24/7 support means 24/7 phone any day of the year. We even have instant messenger support most of the day, and soon all night. Out of curiousity why do you think it's Dathorns fault for spam? Do you have proof it's because of them or just a suspicion? When your site was hacked was it only your site or everyone on the server?

I don't blame Dathorn, as I said, I've had nothing but praise for them for quite some time. It just seems that I am constantly being scanned, to the point that I was actually able to chart 2 gig of traffic used up via the scans. A few others on the server have stated the same problem. It just appears to me that through unfortunate circumstance, I'm one of the lucky ones.
I don't think there's much of anything they can do to truly stop it from happening, so I think its just time to move on....its just nice that I'll be looking to move on from a host under good terms for once ![]() Wether or not the hack came from someone internal or external, I have absolutely no clue, but I do know that if a system was hacked once, it can, and with my luck, probably would happen again. Again though, I don't blame Dathorn at all....it was just my lucky roll of the dice. |
