For the first time I have found a company that will suspend my account for having too many connections, when my website doesn't get enough hits to pay for the hosting account.
Do Hostgators servers suck or what? Why do they have to suspend accounts (this happens to me monthly) without perhaps sending an email saying look, we are having a problem, please fix it this way. Now I am having trouble with support, because I can't get emails from the email address they suspended. Wow...I am pissed, and extremely surprised that a company like this would treat someone so poorly. |

Let's start with the email address: it's foolish to have your contact email for HG be via a domain hosted at HG. Service can get interrupted for many reasons and it's just good practice to get HG account email through a different address (NASA calls it 'redundant failsafe'.) Next. HG is suspending you monthly? How, then, is this a pre-sales question? And if this is a 'first' for you, per your claim, why did you switch from your previous company(ies)? Now, open connections. Well-written scripts shouldn't have that problem. If this really is a monthly occurence, how come you haven't researched the solution? Finally, your complaint about doing this to a site that 'doesn't get enough hits to pay for the hosting account'. If you're trying to make money on a $15 shared hosting account, you'd better rethink your business plan, particularly if it involves something that apparently uses so much server resources. Either you're new to HG, which implies you've been booted from other companies, or you're not (that part about being suspended monthly). If this has been happening to you regularly here at HG, you could have started looking for a solution in this forum--there are probably 100 threads about open connections. |

You must not have dealt with many companies. It is pretty normal in a shared hosting environment to suspend accounts that are using too many connections, and, as a result, causing problems for other accounts. It could be a variety of issues including a poorly written script. If this is happening regularly then you should investigate on your end, it is not HG's responsibility to determine what problems your code may have.
I've been with a variety of hosting companies and the server here has worked very well for me. When one account on the server is causing problems I would hope they would suspend it rather than send an email and allow the problem to continue while waiting for a response. As for not being able to communicate with the Help Desk due to the email account being suspended you should always use an email address not tied to your domain to prevent this problem. GMail or an ISP account would allow you to communicate easily. |

hmm...I see the mistake with the email address, and I will fix that in the future.
And it is a $40.00 a month hosting. I am upset because this keeps happening and I am not sure what to do about it. Sure, my scripts may not be the best, but I write them as well as I can. If someone would tell me where the problem lies, maybe I could fix it. I do have experience with shared hosting, and I have been with plenty of companies that didn't suspend me without first trying to solve the issue. 100 threads on open connections? Sound like I am not the only one having the problem. |

Well...the only reply I can get from support is the email saying I a suspended.
I guess I am just too dumb to figure this stuff out. I have never been banned from a hosting account before. I'm sorry I pissed all you people off who love HostGator. It is pretty obvious that I am not welcome as a customer, so I will look elsewhere. Thank you for you time. |

Cricketsoda, here's the deal.
This forum is chock full of useful advice on an enormous variety of subjects. Members have walked members through many, many solutions. BUT. When people act like disingenuous victims who have made little effort to help themselves, preferring to blame HG for their problems, it can rub members the wrong way. Those threads about open connections are not one-way complaints about having problems--they provide a lot of info about preventing problems. |

I love my wife, my kids, and my friends. I'm happy with my hosting but it's just hosting. Folks here are more than willing to welcome newcomers with questions and some folks here have a lot more patience than I do. When you pop into the forums and your first post is a tirade you will probably not receive many "Welcome to the forums" posts.

I did a search and didn't find anything that would seem to help.
I run wordpress. I have the reseller hosting that cost $39.95 or something like that. I get 3,000 visitors a day. That is so little I can't see what the problem would be. Wordpress runs on thousands and thousands of servers with no problems. Why would mine be any different? I installed in from the Fantastico panel Hostgator provides. I post maybe once a week. Check my email a few times a day. The most people we have had online at one time according to my tracker is 16. It is really hard for me to prevent a problem (a little pretentious are we?) when I didn't know one existed. Wordpress doesn't say anything in their user Manuel about connection problems. And as far as effort, I have been sitting here for the past two days trying to figure this stuff out. I don't prefer to blame HG for my problems, but when I am left in the dark, I do blame the people who didn't tell me anything. |

Cricketsoda,
just two remarks: You can jump in your tickets without email, read and write here; http://support.hostgator.com/ If you ask gently support for the logs they will post you them. Then if you post them here in the forum, possibly obfuscated, you will find help for to correct your issue.

hi cricketsoda. Sorry to hear all that trouble you had.
Most shared hosting, including hostgator, had their usage policy in place so that the shared server is equal for everybody. Its good that its put in practise, so that each one of us here getting the right usage. hostgator hosting have many shared plan and dedicated server as well. Finding the right size of shoes, wont hurt your feet. good luck to your success, seem like your website does growing.
